Live Recordings / Dick James Sound

Recommended Posts

I saw Richard James open up for Bjork once in NYC (I was there to see him), it was on her ‘Post’ tour in the 90s, and he played music unlike I ever heard from him before or after, with blaring (mariachi?) trumpets and horns, like Aphex Twin’s version of salsa music. It wasn’t grating or crazy, just groovy.

Does anyone know if there are any recordings of this show, or if he played in this style on the rest of the tour or just that night? if anything exists?

the closest approximation to this ive heard on any official release would maybe be a few moments on ‘mike and rich’ or maybe the track donkey rhubarb, but nothing actually like it.

the other thing ive wondered is did recordings come of the “Dick James Sound” ? i didnt think so, but then i saw it on a discography on here somewhere. i think a lot of fans had fantasies about more stuff like the gentle people remix

and if any aphex experts who read this want to steer me to anything based on what ive written above, it would be appreciated. that said, i do know his stuff pretty well. thanks

which rule is being broken?

Well, I've got a 2 minute mp3 of his noise set when he opened for Bjork in 2004, with great audience response :shade:. Can't help you out any further.

Why didn't you record it when you were there!?!?!? Just kidding, you are looking in the right place but there are no known recordings, at least nothing that has really been shared or passed around much.
