Amen, I actually think Slip is one of Ae's best tracks. Certainly one of their most emotional.

Great album start to finish

Also, garbage is brilliant

My first Autechre album. I loved it. I used to go to sleep to it when stoned. Best cover art for any Ae release (other than draft).

Hehe me too... the whole song makes me think of Shifting Sand Land (I think it was called that).

I remember reading what was supposed to a scathing review for the album on amazon, they gave it one star, and one of the angry comments made was "It sounds like videogame music!" and I couldn't help but think "how is that a bad thing?"

and another thing, whats with those little foam peanuts in packaging? and why do you need so many of em? why dont they make em bigger? also when the hell is wisp's album coming out? is it better than amber?

yeah, its probably my least favorite part of the album

also, id like to agree that the ending of piezo is the most lonely haunting thing ever. it feels like im drifting out into space, and accepting that im not gonna survive

amber is great. its the first autechre cd i started listening to, and would have to agree with the previous posters regarding how cool the artwork is. personally my favorite on the album is piezo. it seems that with so many other popular/famous autechre tracks piezo is normally not very widely recognized, but this is one of the few autechre tracks to me that can really immerse me in the music. something about sustained chords that get through to your head...

i only really like slip off it, its one of their best songs imo, the rest of the songs on amber are boring

I dunno how so many people like Slip. I think Amber is def the best pre-Chiastic album but Slip was always the odd man out on that album. Foil, Montreal, Piezo, Nine, and Teartear are all stellar tracks IMO.

"Nine" is the only good one.

For me, the album really stumbles until it hits Glitch/Piezo. Absolutely brilliant there. Nil is also stunning, particularly the stereo separation at the end.

My biggest problem was that it felt really uneven, and I thought they could've gotten rid of some of the weaker tracks in favor of shorter versions of tracks on Garbage.

Overall I think it's their weakest album. I never really listen to it fully because some tracks start are just a bit boring. I absolutely love Teartear though.

I think Amber is great and I think it's funny how Rob Brown thinks this stuff is cheesy. You gotta just bathe in the nostalgia when you listen to this album, it's awesome electronic music. In the years to come Rob will probably think Confield is cheesy, I wonder if he will be proud, over time, of anything he's made. Again, the nostalgia and the perfect 90's electronica (90's electronic music, think the label Clear, Reflective, Rather Interesting, etc. guys and you'll be with me on this one) vibe is in this album i.e., Slip has that perfect electronic music melody in it and it repeats too, like it's not structured like pop music but it's a pop melody and they just drill it into your head, I love it!

i don't like this album that much but i don't think that it sucks...

The tide really has turned on Amber. Five, ten years ago I'd say the consensus was that it was still considered a classic release but it seems people find it too simple (?) or something now thanks to the increasingly cubist mindfuck that is Ae's music. Every bedroom idmist and their dog were trying to rip of this album a while back.

Like narkeworld I love the feel of it, the 2 note basslines, the quadraverb, the spacey delay. It feels like a black, shiny nighttime record. Yes its very 90s but its still great.

Completely agree. Slip isn't so hot, they're just hitting the black keys on a piano, if you know what I mean, for the melody. Stupid.

The rest of the tracks are pretty good, Foil, Montreal, etc.

Also, you have a great avatar.

amber has always remained my favourite album of theirs and the one i always go back to. so deep, dark and emotional - it makes me think and reflect more than anything else that i listen to by them. plus i love the cover art/photo. garbage was a great ep too.

Amber is a standout track because as far I've heard is the first track where they ditched the synth/melodics as much and rather went with more abstract sounds.

The rest of the album is great for what it is, but I appreciate piezo a lot because it's more abstract and interesting just sonically speaking to me than the others.

this whole album is amazing, Foil is one of the tracks that really got me into autechre, just the droning digeridoo type of deal with the distant percussion that slowly fades in, leaves such an impression of openness, vastness, like this is some new world.

The story for this album is awesome too, and by that i mean the general flow of the album seems to represent some very abstract story.

Actually I find that most of AE's albums up to around confield or so could be great musical accompanyments to film.

Fuck they should make trippy ass Gantz Graf type of CG video for the whole album like floyd did with the wall. IMO there is no better musical candidate for a CG album accompanyment than Autechre.

so basically people like amber because of nostalgia and like slip because of lacking piano skills, heh. I like parts of amber because I have good indecision skills....

anyway, untilted is stupid. it's just plugging the sequencers into the sequencers. ;)
