lol i'm not going to remove it rly, i'm just being an asshole. i'm sick of removing it, but technically it

shouldn't really be there cos it needs referencing from a reliable source, which doesn't exist.

Art and music is so subjective. I dont give a fuck what people think is right or wrong in regarding influences. fight over when he was born or date of releases, not other pointless shit.

"Rumours

In the "History" section, under "Synthesizers and drum machines: 2004–2008" it says: "Rumours that he may have committed suicide in 1999 remain unproven, thou many suspect this may be true, and that the so called public "Aphex Twin" is just a guy in mask." Since when does wikipedia deal in rumour-mongering? Shouldn't this be removed? Wikipedia is not a tabloid magazine or a fan-forum/BBS. And also, it should say "Though" not "thou" 220.239.181.130 (talk) 23:52, 31 August 2008 (UTC)"

It's kinda weird that this has come up because I heard this interview many years ago on BBC radio well before I was into RDJ and its still creating a stir even now.

It was basically an general interview with Stockhausen on Radio4 (I think) about his career, towards the end he was asked his opinion on two new leading experimental electronic artists and was played Ambient Works (or AW 2) and Plastikman's Musik.

Of what I can remember My Stocky didn't like Richards 'ice cream' harmonies (maybe he should have heard Dodeccaheedron) but he preferred Richie's use of space, silence which seemed more his thing although he thought the 'post African rhythms' were nothing new.

He then recommended his works (or experiments) Songs of Youth for Mr James and Telemusic for Mr Hawtin. Telemusic is actually worth a listen btw and can be heard in the background score for Planet of the Apes.

All in all a slightly unfair opinion on side of RDJ’s work and although Stockhausen was a very important pioneer I personally find he does use silence more artistically than sound, whether that's a compliment or an insult I'm not sure.

Reading a little about the man he still had some pretty wild ideas even by today's standards and although there's a fine line between madness and genius which personally I think he fluctuated between more than the classical community would care to admit (probably because they're too up their own arse to admit they haven't got a clue about his work either) we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for eccentrics like Stockhausen pushing the envelope and you can't argue that things have come full circle a little with the experimental digital glitch type stuff of today and the avant-garde music concrete from over 50yrs ago.

It's a shame Stockhausen died before he got a chance to get into stuff like MAX/MSP but from what I understand he had trouble adapting himself with 'conformed' ideas of regular electronic production technology or perhaps was just too mad to learn how to use it properly.

Influence on RDJ?

Not in a direct sense methinks but I can see the comparisons people make with RJD making his own FX boxes and Stockhausen’s weird DIY devices plus they both have an eccentric dark slant on their musical approach but I think the similarities end there.

yeah, but we've now sourced interviews where dick cites him as an influence. cited material, edit war over. (for now)

yeah it's a bit of a crap edit war

it's the removal of stuff that i took the trouble to cite that pisses me off. i don't really care if stockhausen is mentioned in the article or not.

RDJ My mom and myself. Stockhausen is also an influence.

threehz When you think of your fans, what kind of people do you think of?

RDJ They are a complete variety of people. Listen, I am wrapping this up now. Does anyone have any demos to send me? Or a pixel-vision Fisher Price camera? Bye!

VERY dissappointed with his reply to question one, though i know that has changed now.

I'm curious what the track he recommends to rdj sounds like.

that article is what caused the row in the first place

the track he recommended is already afx's favourite, he mentioned it in another interview

it's vocals and tape loops and vocal tape loops
