there was this thing on TV here i saw a while back which had people that did this for a year purely as a way to buy a house or something... instead of have a mortgage or saving for 10 years they'd just truck-drive in the US - 12 hour days or something and no off-time - and considering that your expenses would be a lot less than normal they could net $100,000 in a year.

i sort of vaguely considered that as something that might be a good idea - bring a guitar, an mp3 with music and a loads of audiobooks and get paid an incredible amount (well for someone like me) for what's almost like a 365 day meditation retreat.

but then i realized i don't even have my learners... :embrassed:

This is exactly what I am doing. Driving tandem, non-stop, to save up to buy a house, then I quit. Considerably more money to be made in tandem A&E than 100k a year though, as the truck literally only stops to get loaded and unloaded and refueled and repaired.

so what exactly do you need for this shiz?

obviously a US tittytwister standard driving license so you can buy george clooney a drink

and you mention a drug test and a background check

i would imagine it's the sort of game you need connections to get into, though?

seriously, i'd do this for two years hardcore, and buy a lush-ass house, hell with wifi you could pull a chaosmachine on top of that.

oh, to be a watmm-postin truckdrivin whorekillin electronic music man

*samples CB* *remixes convoy, no, wait, rubberduck's coming to town*

nah, there are several big comany's in the US, I would recommend CRST or Landstar or even TMC, because they will pay the 3 grand it takes to get your cdl, in return you work a 6 month contract with them. You don't need any connections, just call up a company and talk to a recruiter. You cant have any DUI, DWI's, or open container violations in the past 3 years. And a clean driving record ofcourse will help. Today in houston I met an old Slavic guy who had moved to the US to drive trucks and he seemed very happy with it, compared to his home country. The hardest part for me is the random UI's as I still smoke pot so I have to have immediate access to clean piss (substitution, never supplement.)

I take my DOL test tomorrow.  I still haven't gotten the hang of checking my mirrors, and since I've only ever driven manual three times in my life, I still have trouble with gear selection.  And I can only alley dock like an epileptic at a rave. Fortunately, I never liked pot.

luckily driving stick is way easier in a truck, you dont even have to use the clutch, you can float between the gears when you hit the rights rpms (you really dont want to use the clutch anyway, as pressing it in too far engages the engine break) typically around 13-1500 in our peterbilt.

so im back on the road after dealing with atticus last night. next stop gillette, wyoming.
