how could they possibly make a sequel to this film? what a way to ruin the memory of a great film.

there's plans to make a sequel to blade runner, which is x10000000 worse

please tell me you are kidding... please...

Ridley Scott himself talked about making a sequel back in 2007 at the Comic Con, because he thought that there were some interesting things about Deckard's backstory and some ideas about immortality.

What's worse is that McG not long ago mentioned that it would be interesting to make a remake of Blade Runner.

yeah. its liek cube. not that i think cube was great great great, but it was a cool little indie film that sat nicely on its own, nad then they started making sequals and it all seemed totally wrong and silly.

I was actually thinking of making a thread about the Cube sequels and how they totally miss the point and don't work at all and how Cube is an awesome standalone film that needs not a sequel, but I didn't. Glad to see someone shares the sentiment.

Cube 2 wasn't so bad, it was just an expansion of the original concept. Now the last one was truly horrible.

this one really looks shit.

i liked how jake gylenhall seemed just the right guy for the role, though. as for the movie itself i think it's rubbish. it always seemed like there was something intriguing to the original story, but its bad directing, screenplay and sloppy twists made it just that-weird-movie; boring, severely ironic and not credible at all.

It's not the Supernatural-style sheen I object to. It's the number of scenes that look exactly the same, but with different people. Waking up in public / weird person suddenly in the road / letcherous older man / hand on water / the rabbit in darkness / the same text / the trampoline / big things falling from the sky / the mumbling guy / the TV in the dark in the corner of the room / "wake up" / the teen angst / driving a car at someone / kids on bikes / "they made me do it" / etc etc.

"There are forces at work here. Something evil." Too right.

Edit: wrote 'dricing' instead of 'driving'. That should be a word.

Anyway, not even gonna watch the trailer based on your reactions. I won't let my image of the 1st one be tainted.

This.

I'm going to refuse to ever acknowledge this movie.

Like Jurassic Park 3 and the Godfather III.

Obviously Kelly has nothing to do with this. I expect it to rank right up there with American Psycho 2.

From Wiki:

  Quote
Donnie Darko's writer and director, Richard Kelly, did not reprise his role as the director or writer of S. Darko. He stated "To set the record straight, here's a few facts I'd like to share with you all -- I haven't read this script. I have absolutely no involvement with this production, nor will I ever be involved." [3] Chris Fisher, director of S. Darko, noted that he was an admirer of Kelly's film, and that he hoped "to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality."

i've never seen cube one. i was visiting some friends, was massively stoned and surfing TV after everyone had gone to sleep, and i found cube 2. it was like being stuck in some sort of bizarre nightmare, watching it at that time/place/state of mind gave the whole experience a real surreal quality. the place also had this amazing old-school painted tin ceiling, tiled pattern, and i'd spent the previous (first) night there staring at it and imaginging it as a 2D universe or something. a couple days after that, i accidentally stumbled on a way to make the noise of the cube collapsing on my ms2000, and i pretty much wound up changing my approach to live jamming because of it.

God DAMMIT that's fucking horrid. . . I don't even have sound at work but even without it . . . GOD DAMMIT.

I mean, they didn't even get Maggie Gynllenhallsofmedicine to play the sister? I guess that's good so there can be as a little as possible to link the original to this piece of utter and complete fecal bullshit.

Oh, and I really enjoyed hypercube - sorry.

The character in S. Darko is actually Samantha Darko or Donnie Darko's little sister. Daveigh Chase.

I still think she should have made a prequel about Roberta Sparrow instead. She wasn't in Donnie Darko that much and there was a lot of mystery to her back story so they could have had more room to make it its own movie (rather than being tethered to the Donnie Darko plot and having to be another teen drama).

Ahhhhhhh - ok, that makes more sense. . . and, unfortunately, makes me feel old as hell.

@ P.O. - yeah, that would have made an interesting movie. Although w/out Kelly involved I kind of expect any Darko spinoff to be absolutely horrid.

Speaking of odd sequels, apparently The Descent is getting a follow-up. . . similar situation as I believe its a different writer/director with some members of the original cast involved.

Yeah, I absolutely don't get this one. The first one wasn't really worth all that much - at least I never really understood the hype.

The sequel will be about the exact same thing as the first one and they even manage to lure the leading actress down into the caves once again. How is that possible? She must be scared absolutely shitless from going down into the caves again and would probably do unthinkable things to not having to go into the cave again.

Yeah, that was my reasoning for picking that part. It would only have loose ties to the original so if you had a different team working on it, they could have more room to make it their own. I picture a psychological/supernatural gothic horror type story set in the 50s or whenever she was a teacher and first discovering the ideas/concepts.

I expect any Darko spinoff to be absolutely horrid even if Kelly is involved. After the crap that was Southland Tales I have yet to see Kelly being more than the one hit Donnie Darko wonder. Maybe the upcoming The Box is gonna prove me wrong.

You take that back or else . . .

@Squee - I think they're going for a "Aliens" sort of thing with the sequel - traumatized heroine from the first film gets brought in as an adviser while a team of explorers/grunts promise to provide protection . . . from something they. just. don't. understand. . . . dun dun DUNNNNNn

@ PO - again, yeah, it probably would make a much more cerebral and interesting film than what appears to be a CGI fluff-fest. . . ffs they even brought back the fucked up bunny mask? Christ, it's like Coldplay making a sequel to OK Computer
