i would have elaborated in my last post but i seem to have teh internetz version of being "tounge tied".

You are taking the whole god and religion thing way too far and out of context. So are a lot of people here now that really have no idea what they're talking about. Most people say "god" in AA/NA because it's simple and easier to say than "higher power". Your "god" can be anything. For the longest time my higher power was AA itself. That works. Now if people start spouting "jesus this" & jesus that", it would be a diff story, but that usually never happens. You just don't really seem like you want it. It saddens me because I think you know what's going to happen if you don't get better. I'm not trying to be self-righteous here, i hope it doesn't sound like I am.

theSun, why don't you fuck off and die you stupid cunt, seriously I'd fuck you and your mother in the mouth if you were sat in front of me.

As for the rest of you, I totally understand where you are coming from, I don't know what its like in America, but if you are being led on to believe this has anything to do with christianity the chruch and god then your completely wrong, I am in no way religious nor do I believe in god. Those of you who know anything about the AA programme is that the AA god means "Good Orderly Direction", nothing to do with a guy with a white beard, this will come as you start to work the first three steps and as your mind changes spiritually you will see life for what it really is without having to use mind altering substances, untill you begin to work the steps you will never understand and just going to the meetings without doing any reading (especially of the aa book) will confuse you. You CAN use religion if you wish to turn to it, then this can be your god but it does not HAVE to be.

lol ok buddy, maybe you should not assume that every branch of AA has the kind of spiritual freedom that you seem to have enjoyed. you said yourself that you do not know what its like in america. well i dont know what its like in the UK, but apparently theres a guy who wants to fuck me and my mom in the mouth.

if you have to replace your addiction to something physical such as booze or weed with a spiritual addiction, go for it. the fact of the matter is that in an applied setting, the patient places the responsibility somewhere besides their own shoulders, which i think is complete and utter bullshit.

This is why its alcoholics anonymous, because its for alcoholics only, the reason for this is that any other party wouldn't understand unless they studied it themselves.

george,

i do remember one of the first things they told me was that god means "good orderly direction", but before every activity we had to recite the lord's prayer, and virtually every person who came to speak to us spoke of the importance of your "personal relationship with jesus christ". i even asked one of the speakers about that because i was under the impression that "higher power" was not tied to a specific religion, or religion period. i was repeatedly told that "higher power" can be anything, but sure enough--at the next big book meeting, or whatever, it was all about jesus and/or the christian god.

it hampered my recovery to a certain extent (my fault for letting it), as i'm not a religious person. i did get some good advice from some seasoned 12-steppers, who cleared some things up for me. maybe things are just different in the UK, there seems to be a lot more zealotry over here, more so in the so-called "bible belt" part of the states.

i can only relate my experience--which i would describe as "mixed".

you're right, because alcohol addiction is 100% unique and nothing at all is like it or even close to any other sort of physical or mental addiction.

You are completely wrong, and yet again have proven my point that you know fuck all, so shut up and stop making yourself look a twat.

Every fellowship follows the AA book mate thats AA book , NA/CA/OA/SLA/SA/GA/MA, even alonon.

AA is used as an example, Capiche (sp?) lol?

Yea thats why I was saying I didn't know what it was like over in America, and that the word God shouldn't be taken in a religious way at all unless you wish it to be, Its good that you got it vcleared up though as there must be lots of confusion, as essines said I do know that there are breakaway sects that are different to aa because they don't agree with the religious aspect, but as long as you can graps that it doesn't have to be religious then all should work.

<3 weed

george - i'm pretty sure we'd be able to find common ground if this wasn't an internet forum.

Probably, the internet and weed togther tend to cause friction between pretty much anything, you could put a marshmallow and and a jelly baby in here and they'd end up suicidal.

Getting just the right amount of abusive is like trying to cook bacon perfectly.
