I still like one discussion forum + ekt, the way it used to be. but, if we must have some sort of division between batcock and music discussion, than this:

I think the addition of a brand new forum would increase the clutter, BUT combining all the artist subforums + new & upcoming releases and making THAT the new "music subforum" would be the best course of action. (then with the live show forum as an offshoot of that). Then it'd basically be "Batcock", "Music", and "Your shitty dicking around in Ableton" forums.

merge the artist subforums into a music forum. i think the concept of tagging that we wanted to incorporate can be solved more simply by people writing proper subject lines.

There's the rub; getting people to obey that would be difficult - I had thought about making custom icons for the topic indicators (post icons) to indicate what artist it's about as a visual indicator...

no need to enforce it, if it's a good idea, people will do it naturally.

also, i wouldn't preclude music topics from genban, let people decide where they want to post based on what kind of response they're expecting. in theory, the music subforum should gather a more on-topic response.

overplanning a community doesn't work. it's better to reduce barriers and let organic growth occur.

No, I like to keep the fanboyism side of WATMM in the subforums. Having it in GenBan would just get cluttered and stupid real quick. Keep it the way it is now then remove cylob and plaid. Having the subforums creates a place for the dorks and wonks to nerd out and the people that hate that sort of thing can be left in peace. Merging them would create a lot of hate. Also the ongoing joke of boc forum would cease to exist.

The old way was the best. If you merge the subforums into a general music forum, you're going to dilute GB even further, as presumably all music/artist threads would go there, not just featured artists.

One of the great Wattem threads was the Analord photoshop comp. If that happened now, it would be tucked away in a subforum.

I hate to say it but there is more to electronic music than the 8 featured artists on this forum so a general music chat sub would be good and a general music download section would be even better methinx!

at first i was tihnking no... but then I changed my mind. Though I'll probably never go there... that's what I enjoyed about general banter 'cause most of the stuff I find there I wouldn't have found otherwise.... I wasn't looking for it, just stumbled upon.
