I remember many years ago (it might have been on joyrex.com) someone posted asking about ambient music similar to sawII, and someone mentioned an artist (I think they were japanese). does anyone know who this could have been (the artist, not the poster)?

I feel there is a baobab tree growing out of my head, its leaves stretch up to the heavens

have you listened to Eno's music for films; ambient 1, 2, 3, and 4; No Pussyfooting (Fripp/Eno), some of the tracks on 'Another Green World', the instrumental tracks off of 'Heroes' by Bowie/Eno(especially the special edition extra track at the end) and 'Low' by Bowie/Eno ; several of the tracks on 'My Life in the Bush with Ghosts' by Eno and David Byrne (the last track, 'Mountain of Needles', is idm way before idm)....great records, all!

Pulseprogramming's first record, self-titled....

Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto!

Tim Hecker!

Desolation Wilderness!

all of those should do....

I'm looking for something that has that truly dreamlike quality that most of the tracks on sawII have. something that sounds like it's straight from your subconcious, like it wasn't composed but just sprung from your dreaming mind. or is sawII the only music in the world with that feeling?

Seriously, listen to what I have suggested, you asked the question, I know the answer....!

Have you ever listened to biosphere? I recommend Shenzhou as well as Substrata 2.

Those are great albums, his other stuff is great but I enjoy these the most.

Also brian eno's Ambiant IV is a pretty interesting album.

I havn't heard this "insomnia" album by biosphere that dial mentions.

mmmkay. I've already got some eno - music for airports, my life in the bush of ghost, and the bowie albums. I'll check out the others. but what I'm really looking for is that specific lucid dream feel that a lot of the sawII tracks have.

The Insomnia album by Biosphere is nothing like Microgravity. Microgravity is happy hardcore compared to Insomnia ;D

yeah I agree to check out more of biosphere. Dropsonde is also good, but a little more cheerful than shenzhou. I still have to check out insomnia. But yeah, microgravity is his earlier beat-driven ambient techno, I really like his later stuff more. Its much more dreamy.

Sawako

good stuff, tracks are too short though.

Maybe Susumu Yokota? Might be a bit too obvious, but has some very "dreamy" tracks.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.
