i'm not going to listen if you're going to be like that

sheesh

LISTEN please, LOH LAND was made in 1985 (it sounds more like 1995) and if you can handle a little bit of middle eastern weirdness you will appreciate this album

and if you need some other ZF lps after this one check out 'Shouting at the Ground' (the last track on this is amazing) 'Collusion' & 'Monomishe' these are mostly other ambient stuff they've done also 'Shadow Theif of the Sun' probably the most ambient thing under the ZF name but its basically a solo Robin Storey work which means its more like the first Rapoon album not as much as a true ZF one. 'Look into me', 'Flock of Rotations' and 'Misfits and Looney Toons..' are some of their weirder harsher stuff.

yes.. then ones you recommended are great.. no, amazing

havent really checked their 90s material.. or later,

any recommendations from there ..?

yes! have you checked out the 2 newest 'Reformed Faction' lps? 3 ex members of Zoviet France returning for series of quasi reunion albums which are excellent

Reformed Faction (of soviet france) - Vota

Reformed Faction - The War Against.....

also for post 1990s Zoviet France stuff there are a few gems, Robin Storey left the band at this point and they almost completely lost their middle eastern sound

my favorites - Digilogue , In.Version , Decriminalization of Country

Music (slide guitar country meets Zoviet france not kidding) and Music for Sphagetti Western (an unreleased work from the 80s of ZF)

no i havent.. ive heard digilogue.. and that mort aux vaches series release.. and themes for tramways

..from later period

,, i like all

i shall

the theme from tramways one i think is Decrminalization of country music if im not mistaken

here is the opening track with some funny slide guitar but it actually works quite well

the Mort Aux Vaches is probably my least favorite of their new stuff but its not a bad LP, mostly synthesis and doesnt have that organic quality that other ZF has. The Reformed Factions LPs bring back that mid 80s Zoviet France sound but with technically better recording quality

oh yes, the long name..

that album is great

..getting spaghetti western*

and how about that popular soviet songs release?

that one is fantastic also but im such a huge fan it's hard to say any ZF stuff is bad, it's comprises of more of their noisier raw sounding cassette tape stuff pre Loh Land sound.

BELONG - OCTOBER LANGUAGE

Easily the best thing I've heard in a couple of years. Completely love them.

I dig on Belong, but this is the best track on the album. Good, but not great.

Checking out Zoviet France now.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

I'm really racking my brains here at SAW II-a-likes and the nearest I can get is -

Colin Potter & The Hafler Trio - A Pressed on Sandwich (it's like 2 or 3 SAW II tracks mulched into 50 minutes)

Hildur Gudnadottir, BJ Nilsen and Stilluppsteypa - Second Childhood (slightly more esoteric than SAW but a similar dark intoxicating ambience running through it all)

Sleep Research Facility - Nostromo (SAW with sci-fi tinges on top - it's apparently based on the first few minutes of Alien)

DJ Olive - Triage (wasn't sure about this one, it's like SAW's slightly more contented younger brother)

I'm thinking there must be a Machinefabriek album that fits the bill too but I couldn't find one that was SAW esque enough.

It sure is a tricky sound to pin point....

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

that Belong stuff was garbage. Its amazing that you would throw that in consideration for something similar to Saw II. I dont think people "get" SAW 2 from some of these recommendations. And the dreamlike quality being discussed is totally accurate while also being vague enough to throw people for a loop as far as what to suggest. I dont consider anything Eno ever did to resemble Saw 2 for example. Anything drone-y...nope. Ambients a complicated thing but i know exactly what the request is here. And the answer if you find it I would like to know myself

there is a lot of stuff out there that sounds like parts of SAWII but with the inclusion of those weird I care because you do style rhythmic beat tracks its hard to pin down something exactly like the album. I do strongly think that parts of Coil VS Elph 'worship the glitch' share strong similarities to it at least conceptually and bands like Shuttle 358 (not sure if mentioned yet) make a lot of tracks like the 1st song on the 2nd disc.

Good stuff mentioned here tho I'm surprised Pete Namlook hasn't been mentioned.

Try...

Outland - Namlook/Laswell

63 Eulengasse - Namlook/Inoue

2350 Broadway Series - Namlook/Inoue

Russian Spring - Namlook

Ariel Service Area - Atom Heart

also try

Mu - Atom Heart/Inoue (the best ambient album ever imho)

World Receiver - Tetsu Inoue

Waiting for Cousteau (title track) - Jean Michel Jarre

Oophoi - Mare Tranquillitatis

Distill - Divination (best dark ambient comp imho)

Ambient 4 - (Virgin comp)

Ambient by Instinct (x4 CD Boxset)

Ambient Systems series (Instinct)
