he can't give it a serious answer because he agrees with legalization. but saying so would be political suicide.

What do you mean by political suicide exactly? If this was before he was elected I could understand

It's possible to have a second term, dude.

I know but, for real, legalization of marijuana is more of a political suicide than the combined fuck ups of Bush's first term? We all seem to agree legalizing it would stimulate the US economy so I don't see how that move would turn people who were already supporting him.

Basically it seems its being suggested that legalizing it would turn supporters against him and/or cause the right wingers to increase their power and influence and secure his not returning for a second term?

Maybe I should just stay out of US politics..but I'm keen to learn!

i doubt not legalizing marijuana would offend the borderline republican voters who voted for him last term. If it would turn anyone it would turn the borderline nader demographic

This way, he holds the approval of his conservative voters

i really think obama wouldn't be hurt politically if he legalized. something like 40% of the public supports it now, and i have no doubt if that was narrowed down to obama voters it would be much higher. anyway, i can understand that he doesnt want to take the risk.

but really, i bet it's because he doesn't want to give racists the ammunition. first black president legalizes weed...

cue cartoons of 40s and blunts and fried chicken and watermelon on the white house lawn.

what the fuck is so important about making everyone more retarded

god damn

just come up to Alaska, you can have an ounce and 3 plants legally

I think he would take an initial approval rating of somewhere around 10-20% which would be hard to get back after how hard the media would sink their teeth into any negative impacts of legalization. So pretty much, he would lose the majority approval and would create a large controversy ripe for attacking come election time. If the economy cant be fixed without the revenue from taxing weed sales then hes not getting reelected anyways.

the only reason I want weed legalized is so in those rare occasions when I don't know any dealers... I can just go down to the store and pick up a pack of joints... think about how nice that will be.

and just in general the whole culture surrounding weed will change... it won't be nearly as big of a deal as it is now... it won't even be considered worse then drinking/smoking by most people.... *sighs*

i have a joint in my ear, a bowl in my butthole, a blunt in my penis tip, a bong in my belly button and a space cake in my mouth.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

i was about type up a long explanation, but seriously, you guys are a bunch of unsophisticated retards.

Who fucking cares though, really, I smoke alot of weed, but I could care less if it is illegal or not.

ME - SO I DON'T HAVE TO KEEP COMING UP WITH BULLSHIT EXCUSES TO DO IT AND FOR EVERYONE TO GET THE FUCK OUT MY FACE, OK?!

That's just because you don't understand what the difference would be. I lived in Amsterdam for 2 years and I'll tell you it changes the whole atmosphere. No shady dealers. No secrecy. MUCH better pot consistently, and much better prices. Not to mention all the crime you capitulate.

Could you type up an explanation anyway? Or at least PM it, I'm not so savvy on politics... I don't even smoke weed but it's still an interesting topic.

This is a ridiculous scenario, but if he legalized and it "saved" the economy, would that convert some people I wonder?

the biggest illusion is yourself

according to several polls, about 40-45% of americans support legalization.

I found it incredibly offensive that he put the questioning online to see what we wanted to know, and then turned around and insulted everyone who uses computers, and gave us a dismissive answer.

First of all, about 70% of americans have access to the internet, and when he made that quip like "I don't know what that says about our online audience" he was basically giving a big fuck you to about 70% of the country. I understand that he is against legalization as a resolution for the economy but he should at least explain himself considering he spent several minutes on all the other questions.

I realize it would be political suicide at the moment, and that the prevailing common sense must be slowly changed, but still we deserved a more thorough response. That being said I still think its awesome that you guys (i'm actually canadian) have a president that openly smoked pot and shows no remorse.

Consider this bullshit though: Marijuana is against federal law, but in the states where it is legalized medicinally, the federal government still collects on the taxes. What the fuck? How can they say its fucking illegal and still collect the fucking tax revenue from it? Thats outrageous.

wow - that is serious bullshit.

i think the legalization movement would be best served if they stopped sending scraggly looking potheads in tie-dye, birkenstocks and dashikis out to collect signatures or distribute pamphlets. As long of the face of the legalization movement looks like tommy chong, there ain't gonna be no respect.

send law students out in khakis and collared shirts.

P.S. I am both amazed and thankful that Ron fucking Paul has not yet been brought up in this thread. Please keep it that way.

If it was legalized, your dealers would disappear. They wouldn't be able to compete with large companyies prices. People will usually go for the cheaper product, whether the quality is compromised or not.

Yeah but if it were legalized, cost would plummet and quality would skyrocket. Basically, with prohibition there is additional risk fees on the drug considering it takes a risky setup to grow dope, and even more risky setup to grow really good dope.

If it were to be legalized, then enourmous warehouses outfitted with the top of the line technology would be legal and easy to set up. I cant see it doing anything bad for weed in general. Yeah, dealers would disappear (Except for later on at night when the store is closed).

I guess you would have people breeding their own strains for friends to taste too but yeah I dont imagine it could do anything bad for weed culture.
