That's kind of what I thought. I think I can hear the part where the chord jumps and octave but there is still a bass note descending at the same time.

can somebody explain to me what the fucking is going on in this. It sounds like the chords are constantly descending, like a shepherd's tone or scale or something. Fucking does my head in every time.

Yeah, it's a Shepard tone.

KC are basically the only prog band that aren't completely embarrassing on some deep level. I mean, there's plenty of embarassing shit, though: I'm looking at you, Islands.

ITCOTKC

LTIA

RED

DISCIPLINE

^This is the good shit right here.

Discipline is my favorite, and it's the only Belew era KC I love from beginning to end.

Also, Matte Kudasai is the only good King Crimson ballad ever.

I think the worst part of Islands is honestly the lyrics. Some of that is so cringe-inducing. Just listening to Ladies of the Road makes me feel like a misogynistic creepy old man.

I guess there's some shit lyrics on Larks' Tongues in Aspic, too, but the instrumentation/arrangement makes up for it in awesome.

I basically just wish King Crimson were all instrumental all the time with the exception of the debut, Red, and Discipline.

Great to see King Crimson getting some love on WATMM

Everything up until adrian belew joined is amazing, cant stand their 80s and 90s era, and Adrian Belew is a big sleazy predator cunt.

Well anyways some tunes

Great Version of I Talk To the wind from Gile Giles and Fripp (before king crimson)

This needs to be played up full blast

God I've been needing a thread like this; my love of KC has been on the wane.

VROOOM VROOOM ('96) usually brings me back. no youtubes unfortunately.

It's worth checking out if you were never into the Belew era; a lot of Larks, Red, ITCOTKC there too

Guest yikes

i am in no way comparing radiohead to KC -but just the mere existence of KC's early works kills poser shit like raidiohead[and many other modern rock bands] null and void in my brain

i only have so many listening hours on earth

do i listen to OK computer or kid a or starless live or fracture live in 73

the choice is so clear

ah, for some reason I was not aware of this piece. his song "FraKCtured" from the their 2000 album must be an homage or revisting of similar motif's:

  • 3 weeks later...

That album is really good. I actually got into king crimson by starting with their 90s stuff and working my way backwards to three of a perfect pair(underrated album) then back up to the very latest, construkction of light and the power to believe and the eps that lead up to those albums, then went back towards Red and am now really into the older stuff right now. Court of the crimson king is great. I also have really liked starless and bible black on recent listens.

Funny how we change as we get older.

I bought In The Court of the Crimson King when I was about 17. I played it once, thought it the gayest/wimpiest/fluffiest load of nonsence I had ever heard and took it back to the shop demanding a return. I swapped it for Public Image Ltd by PiL. The geezer working behind the counter laughed and said no wonder it wasn't my cup of tea.

Now older and wiser, I see the error of my ways.
