Sound:Color Synesthesia in The Soloist

Don't know if any of you saw this movie 'The Soloist' this weekend, but there is a depiction of sound:color synesthesia, which Aphex Twin has been rumored to experience. The visual is several minutes long. If anybody out there has it and has seen this movie, I would be interested to hear if they experience it in a similar way.

Here's the wiki:

Sound:Color Synesthesia

I would imagine it manifests itself differently depending on the person.

I don't see colors in letters and numbers, but when I was a kid I assigned genders to them, so I sort of get this.

I kinda give colors to certain single-digit numbers. 9 is red and 8 is yellow, for instance

I have that sometimes, generally when I'm doing painting-by-numbers

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Some of the synesthete quotes are a little humorous:

  Quote
I remember in elementary school remembering how to spell the word 'priority' because the color scheme, in general, was darker than many other words. I would know that an 'e' was out of place in that word because e's were yellow and didn't fit.

Where exactly do synthesizithisists "see" colors out of smells and audio? In their mind's eye?

Back of the head although I've read that some people actually "see" the colors.

Back of the head = mind's eye?

I don't know that you'd actually "see" the color, but rather you'd become aware of the sensation of color where there was none—the experience is difficult to explain. I haven't been diagnosed as a synesthete, but I have on several occasions imagined the sensation of touch after smelling something unusual or sometimes during brief pain.
