Just a heads up, beta testing for the new propellerhead software just opened.

interesting, but according to the video the main selling point seems to be its designed for use by stoned idiots, sorry I mean non-techie people

Well, I saw that, but it seems like when it's coupled with reason is has the same degree of flexability and semi-low-levelness. Like, Reason is no Max/msp, but it does, to a great degree, let you do what you want, and I get the impression you are still able to do that when it's couple with Record. Oh well, we'll have to wait for beta-testing to confirm/deny that.

For the record, I don't work for propellerheads.

holy fucking shit, ive wanted propellerheads to do this for a long time, pretty much every time Im stoned and talking to my band im like I wish reason could do recording and use line6 modeling. my dreams are cuming true

The sequencer looks identical to Reason 4, so it looks like they have taken the Reason codebase, made a better mixer and added Audio recording, and re-branded it as a new product. They were probably already planning this when they overhauled the Reason sequencer for v4.

I like propellerheads and use Reason a lot, but it seems a bit odd that they have now split their DAW into two separate products (Reason, Record) and even combined together they still can't do VSTs ... maybe they have that planned for Record 2.0. Or perhaps they are just aiming for a market niche to set themselves apart from the others...

edit: i'm aware that Propellerheads have their long-stated reasons for avoiding VSTS: self-contained products, more efficient use of processor, more stable, etc.

I've never used VSTs. Are they nice?

kinda clever to do this instead of launching it as reason 5.

And midi? That's why I've never bothered with Reason.

i am interested

nuendo stopped working. been getting into reaper a bit but overall i find it annoyingly basic.

its a sad day in the music world when Reason fans get excited about its integration for 'recording' about 9 years into it's existence

What will they think of next? Music software has really come on since i dabbled in music creation back in 1997.

nothing amazing. if you like reason and want a multi-track recording suite, you are in luck.

if it doesn't allow me to use smartelectronix ambience and mda leslie then i'm not interested.

reaper is pretty much perfect for what i do, although i don't understand why the wav files i render from it can't be saved over after editing in soundforge. hmm.

I bet all those chumps that just bought new SSL consoles are really kicking themselves. This is truly the dawning of a new age.

It's no great shakes but it's quite a nice development . I have used reason for about 7 years now and it would be great to the audio capabilities as part of a workflow and program that I know like the back of my hand.

'Record' is fairly cheap compared to the other offerings, although Cubase Essential 4 does look like a bit of a bargain.

Also note that Reason is slightly over half the price of Ableton Live (full version boxed).

Don't forget Fruityloops, cheaper than all of them. :embrassed:
