zazen
interesting, but according to the video the main selling point seems to be its designed for use by stoned idiots, sorry I mean non-techie people Edited May 11, 2009 by zazen Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/45564-reason-record/#findComment-1038472 Share on other sites
Root5
Well, I saw that, but it seems like when it's coupled with reason is has the same degree of flexability and semi-low-levelness. Like, Reason is no Max/msp, but it does, to a great degree, let you do what you want, and I get the impression you are still able to do that when it's couple with Record. Oh well, we'll have to wait for beta-testing to confirm/deny that. For the record, I don't work for propellerheads. zazen
total integration with Reason, thats a bit more interesting: Quote If you have Reason registered and installed on your computer, all your favorite Reason devices will automatically be available within Record's ever-expandable, multiple racks. No setting up. No ReWire. It just works. so this is one of the two things that Reason has been lacking: Audio. but it doesn't look like they've bothered with VSTs yet Edited May 11, 2009 by zazen Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/45564-reason-record/#findComment-1038480 Share on other sites
Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
holy fucking shit, ive wanted propellerheads to do this for a long time, pretty much every time Im stoned and talking to my band im like I wish reason could do recording and use line6 modeling. my dreams are cuming true zazen said: total integration with Reason, thats a bit more interesting: Quote If you have Reason registered and installed on your computer, all your favorite Reason devices will automatically be available within Record's ever-expandable, multiple racks. zazen
The sequencer looks identical to Reason 4, so it looks like they have taken the Reason codebase, made a better mixer and added Audio recording, and re-branded it as a new product. They were probably already planning this when they overhauled the Reason sequencer for v4. I like propellerheads and use Reason a lot, but it seems a bit odd that they have now split their DAW into two separate products (Reason, Record) and even combined together they still can't do VSTs ... maybe they have that planned for Record 2.0. Or perhaps they are just aiming for a market niche to set themselves apart from the others... edit: i'm aware that Propellerheads have their long-stated reasons for avoiding VSTS: self-contained products, more efficient use of processor, more stable, etc. Edited May 11, 2009 by zazen Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/45564-reason-record/#findComment-1038486 Share on other sites

Guest David R James
The ability to record? mix? Add FXs? Arrange? Record? Manipulate? Record? What will they think of next? Music software has really come on since i dabbled in music creation back in 1997. modey
if it doesn't allow me to use smartelectronix ambience and mda leslie then i'm not interested. reaper is pretty much perfect for what i do, although i don't understand why the wav files i render from it can't be saved over after editing in soundforge. hmm. Guest Aces
It's no great shakes but it's quite a nice development . I have used reason for about 7 years now and it would be great to the audio capabilities as part of a workflow and program that I know like the back of my hand. zazen
Bear in mind the prices (some people do pay for software): Record: $299 Reason: $449 Record + Reason bundle: $629 Ableton Live 8: $849 boxed, $699 download Ableton Suite 8: $549 boxed, $449 download Ableton 7 LE: $199 boxed, $139 download Cubase 5 Full - $499 Cubase 5 Studio - $299 Cubase Essential 4 - $199 edit: ok, fruityloops too: FL Studio XXL bundle: $299 FL Studio Producer Edition: $199 FL Studio Fruity Edition: $99 FL Studio Express Edition: $49 a few more: Renoise: $49, or free demo with limitations Reaper: $50 non-commercial, $225 commercial, free full featured evaulation (took these prices from the manufacturers sites) 'Record' is fairly cheap compared to the other offerings, although Cubase Essential 4 does look like a bit of a bargain. Also note that Reason is slightly over half the price of Ableton Live (full version boxed).
