Clark - Totems Flare

Yeah, I guess so. I just really like the feel / texture of the paper and the way it makes the art look. I think the Turning Dragon digipack represents this the most. Maybe that's stupid or weird, but somehow it's satisfying to me.

Yeah, he doesn't seem very active. He holds the pad down and triggers a wash of filtered noise and tweaks the cutoff lol. oh well. I would still love to see Clark live to hear that shit banging out of a proper system.

I saw Clark live at Warp20, Paris -- he did more with his equipment on stage than all the other musicians on that night from what I could see and hear. Electronic music is hard enough to replicate in a live setting -- choices are limited to triggering samples/adding fx, unless you want to strip tracks down and play everything yourself. Anyway, back on topic, I'll give this new album a listen this week, although I lost interest in Clark recently.

Clark's alright, but thinking he's the future of IDM is akin to thinking mongoloids are the future of homo sapiens.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

This arrived in the mail this morning - Totally forgot about pre-ordering this ! Looking forward to hearing this one...

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

The normal go-to place tends to be hmv.co.jp ( the album is here - http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/3591965 ), although how you navigate such a site if you can't read Japanese I can't be sure !

There is a link for English at the upper right of the site...

The Japanese version also features two bonus tracks:

7 Penultimate Persian (Penultimate Mix)

8 Bread Session 5

My mistake: the bonus tracks are for Growl's Garden, not Totem's Flare.

seriously, why do the japanesians get the bonus stuff? :\\\\\\\

do you have it? i want the live cd

yea, like this!

why does every single song on here have a mix like JAckson and his computer band, hugely overcompressed crisy 16k boos high end with overly compensatory low end boosted ?

the man obviously doesn't know what he's doing. you should send him a letter and and offer him mixing lessons.

seriously though, that's just clark. i can see how some people can't get into it, but accept it or start a clark hate thread.

personally, i think this album destroys all records this year so far.

i don't see all the hype over seeing electronic musicians live. why would i want to pay to watch a guy twiddle knobs for an hour+? for all we know in those clark videos he's just got itunes open and hes sittin there twittering like damn i cant believe these fools think i'm actually doing something

my friend and i have started working on performing electronic live.

we improvise the entire thing. it sounds awesome, better than that clark clip posted. and it's entirely crafted out of nothing on the spot.

i like this album though why would i want to start a hate thread? i was just critiquing how every song is mixed exactly the same way, on my laptop speakers it actually sounded like a very diverse set of mixes from track to track but when i listen on speakers with full range it sounds like he put the same set of mastering effects on each track imo diminishing it's potential variety only slightly . By the tone of your response you seem ultra defensive about this LP, i know you probably are really enjoying it but to read into what i said as some kind of hate post i think is a little bit obsessive irrational fan boy

i find complaints about clark's mixing akin to people binning a good book because it's printed with a very small font.

i think it's quite a lot different than that, because the fonts and style of printing a book usually has is because of the book's publisher not the writer.

Unlike Turning Dragon, Totem's flare has a very distinctly different feel from track to track in compositional style. Turning Dragon was not my cup of tea but i can respect what he was doing on it.

This album Totem's flare feel like he is expanding his style into a lot of new and exciting directions, however i just feel by mixing every track in exactly the same way he is diminishing it's impact.

Listen to a later period P.J. Harvey album for instance, if every song on it was mixed homogenously with the same style the albums would just not be as interesting.

A mix or even a master can drastically change the sound of a track as well, a small font will not effect the reader's ability to enjoy a story unless by some ridiculous example it was a 5 point font, and in that case you might agree that particular book would become unreadable at that font size ;)

That's odd - the version I linked to IS the "limited edition", and here's the "regular edition" which oddly enough, is MORE (in Yen) than the "limited edition"!

http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/3591966

BUT, note the track listing - an extra, 12th track written in Japanese:

01 OUTSIDE PLUME

02 GROWLS GARDEN

03 RAINBOW VOODOO

04 LOOK INTO THE HEART NOW

05 LUXMAN FURS

06 TOTEM CRACKERJACK

07 FUTURE DANIEL

08 PRIMARY BALLOON LANDING

09 TALIS

10 SUNS OF TEMPER

11 ABSENCE

12 未定(ボーナストラック)

Good old Google Translate says this means: TBA (Bonus Track) - so I think either HMV got their stuff mixed up, or something fishy's going on here...

Amazon.com of Japan has the exact same listing though, and same pricing, EXCEPT the TBA track is listed for both!

aaah. where's beariksson? he had a photo of a japanese release. that track 12 was listed as 21 minutes and it also came with a live bonus disc. 21 minute track? id like to hear that. unless of course is some wankery with 19 minutes of silence for a 30 second joke at the very end. either way, i want it!

oh just wanted to mention again that this album right here, right here... the one in the thread title... heeerrreeeee,,,,,,,,,,,,,, god damn godly
