only heard miracalix remixing a pomassl track, but have always been curious. i guess her first album would be a good place to start?! what period autechre does it sound like?

i think that one i recommended is her first full length LP and it reminds me more of Keynell era and some of that Gescom from the same period (the gescom that uses very little synthesis and is pretty sample heavy)

I really like her latest release "The Elephant In The Room: 3 Commissions" its very Stockhausen influenced but goes further into her instrumental history so its not a real copy of Stockhausen

i got the peel session. but I think the deep red color of the record sleeve was the highlight. It's probably been 10yrs since I listened to it, will have to give it another go.

surprised more AE fans dont dig her first album, to me it's ridiculously AE influenced in all the rights ways it's not biting nor does it sound like any other artists i've heard.

in fact im surprised i forgot to mention this LP in the 'music that is like autechre thread'

i have to check out Nunu again, i dont have a copy of it nor do i remember it

Some of that first album was actually co-produced with Disjecta (Mark Clifford of Seefeel). The first Mira Calix release 'Llanga' was co-produced by Gescom. Perhaps that's when Sean and her started shacking up(?)

I've been meaning to check her out for a while now, might as well get around to it.

I liked her first album but for some reason didn't really follow her after that..

it's an acquired taste, her stuff, i spose. meaning it's not always that enjoyable, but certainly interesting and worth checking out. like caviar. if only to establish that you don't like it.

just 'cos she's Sean's wife... shouldn't make you blindly decide you like it... innit :)

I got the impression somehow that they were divorced. Not that it matters. Mira probably deserves to exist on her own merits on watmm outside of the ae subforum, though. Not that watmm matters.

For real? It must've been that home-wrecker Mark Clifford; getting all up-close and personal with her during those 'Cliffordandcalix' sessions.

I think they've been divorced for a while? like since before quaristice?

who knows. Lol remember the "look at their wedding pics" thread? and then like two days later the photos were off flickr. WATMM WOTS WATMM

My girlfriend is playing in a piece by her pretty soon. Should be pretty cool.

What do you mean?

I'M SORRY FOR BEING ME I CAN'T HELP THE WAY I AM

Mira Calix has composed a piece of music, my girlfriend plays an instrument that is required in the piece. She was asked to play it for a concert in which I think Mira Calix is attending. how could that not be exactly what it is?

To be honest, I thought you were gay.

I'm just joking, I didn't realize Mira Calix 'composed' 'pieces' that require 'players', I thought she was an exclusively electronic musician. Call me an ignorant asshole and rape my nasal passage for it why dontcha.
