does anyone else feel like after youve heard hardy & willis acid and synthacon 9 for the 100th times, you fucking never like music by anyone else for more than a few days or maybe weeks at best? i mean seriously, i am discovering greats like Talking Heads and eno and all sorts of shit that should be totally wrapping me up, and it works in spurts, but fuck, after years of listening to rdj, i can only appreciate it on a certain level for a certain amount of time, and it is never as fulfilling as listening to alberto balsalm or some shit.

wtf.

everyone vent

this thread SHOULD have been about a time that you were trying to listen to your favorite song but richard kept drunkenly blathering on right in your ear about envelope filters and how he has so many machines even his mom is impressed and auto bulbs and bubblebaths and boc are so fuckin shitty and did you know I have a tank?

yea the worse is with hip hop i think. When you listen to really great hip hop like Tribe Called Quest or early Wu, and then you hear whats out now... and its all thats being played on the radio and everyone loves it but you. I wouldn't like the new shitty rap if i tried, really. I try to appreciate it for what it is sometimes, but no.

Yeah, basically I have this with every tune I listen to that's not from AFX. I always think "might as well listen to Synthacon 9, it's like a better, perfected verison of this song." lol

not sarcastic

Guest mafted

totally agreed

this music is art. personal expression with hardly any rules. but any excitement of it flies by people as fan boy hype, which it is, but it's well-deserved hype.. which is RARE.

I think it's worse when you're making music and you realize "shit, 'phex could do this ten times better in half the time."

yeah, like something as simple as a bassline. i love the little blips of higher octaves that accent the notes.. the stuff you don't notice until really listening that make it all work in the end. you don't hear that kind of devotion and attention to detail in the generic electronic SHITE this planet puts out. the guy is a master 303 programmer.

i feel sorry for you, then. sure, aphex is one of the absolute tops of electronic music, but there are so many nuances and styles out there, and he honestly doesn't cover too much of them. if you'd only stop comparing all electronic music to his works, you'd find out how much awesome shit there really is to listen to out there. there's this delusion that he invented everything and covers every interesting aspect of composition and sound, but that's hogwash. and that's just when it comes to the electronic part.

there's so much good music out there that's not being enjoyed properly!

meanwhile - the local maternity ward - nurse comes in with a great big sledgehammer

Rap is especially frustrating, it's even worse than the whole crunk/soulja boy shit vs. underground rap as well. The fact that Timberland ruled the airwaves for the last decade or so and J Dilla didn't is a disgrace.

Back on topic though, what always amazes about Aphex Twin, beyond what people said earlier, was his creativity in the past. I can't wrap my head around the fact that RDJ album was released in 1996 when jungle/d'n'b artists were still barely branching out into sampling stuff other than reggae toasters and Blade Runner clips. Caustic Window and the Xylem Tube EP blows away just about all other rave music of the era. And I don't even have to say anything else about Windowlicker.

Wonderful stuff, but drukqs just blows my mind even more. I mean, how can you ever fit so much details into a track and keep it tasteful at the same time? It's incomprehensible, and the piano tracks are brilliant too, not many people are able to come up with melodies like those. I wish Erik Satie still lived today so he could get his hands on some computers and synths

yeah, I know he isnt god, but after putting down any aphex for months and really branching out, i got tugged back in. aphex is this pleasure center and I cant really escape listening to his shiet. when I wake up and im in a pissed mood or a good mood the eastiest thing for me to do is put on afx. i still force myself to listen to other new shit of course.

lately it's been this hyped up zappa indie band called Dirty Projectors. they are fun but richard poops on them.

Electronic music in general has ruined music or me. [Edit: "for" was what I wanted to say. Neat.]

How lucky were those days when I needed nothing than Eminem.

I always knew what I wanted to listen to. Eminem.

Now I sit in front of my cd player and ask myself: what would be the least annoying piece of music I could put on?

I don't know why it is, but the more music I have, the less I like every single record.

And the less I listen to every new record. It gets boring or at least trivial so unbelievably fast.

There's no fun in it anymore, somehow.

Ceephax' Megalift EP gave me lots of fun. For no more than 3 days. And only, because I forced myself not to listen to it too often.

Caustic is alright for this evening. What luck!

Found something.

yeah electronic music ruined normal music for me as well somewhat. I began to love all the squelching sounds of the 303 and the kickass sounds of the 808, 707 and 606(the 909 is mostly meh tho imo), now when I listen to some rock or whatever, I often find that the sounds don't evoke that much energy at all.
