Aphex Twin Aphex @ Melt! Festival

Hey Guys, im going to a festival in Germany called Melt! where Aphex is headlining, on one of the days (btw how awesome is that, the three headliners are Aphex Twin, Bloc Party and Oasis! ) and im just wondering what to be expecting? I saw him at Warehouse proj last year and i didn't recognise anything (cept i think he played come to daddy at the end?) and im hoping for a few more Aphex classics this time around, you know, maybe a bit of Alberto Balsalm, Windowlicker, 4, Xtal etc... Thing is the end of his set clashes with Simian Mobile Disco (of whom I am a huge fan) who i know will play a lot more of the tracks that i know and love, so i may end up wondering off half way through.

you will probably not hear any of those classic tracks, but you may hear hnipian.

It's been over 10'ish years since I've seen Richard play and it was great to hear the reworked Heliosphan with the wicked bassline on top live. However I'd be more excited about him possibly playing something new or hearing exciting things I've never heard from other artists. I personally do not see any appeal in hearing the EXACT same version of a song that I've already owned and listened to 500,000 times as there is nothing "live" or different about his songs that he presses play on. With that said, I'm still jealous and would love to see the man again. Unfortunately as was mentioned he probably won't drop those particular tunes, but who knows? Want the most amazing "DJ" experience that is really more "live" than DJ? Cylob. Want the best live performance that by far outshines their regular material? Autechre. Best overall fucking awesomeness? Meat Beat Manifesto. Most amazing artist with the least amazing set? Aphex. =( Flame on!

Good call, actually, I forgot about the whole Hecker thing. Awesome, have fun.

I'm going to see him for the third time sunday (dour festival). Few month's back he played things like Mookid, We Have Arrived (TTQ Mix), some Analord, some Caustic Window and an unreleased track. So there's a good chance he plays some classics.

oh i bloody love mookid! I like some of the analord stuff, particularly ones like fenix funk 5 and xmd5a (that piano is so creepy! reminds me of the end of a Thom Yorke track called cymbal rush) so i wouldnt mind some of that. It would be great to hear some new stuff too but all im saying is I'd just love to hear some of my favourites, with the atmosphere of a crowd around me, rather than at home or through some headphones.

will someone be there to record the full set? i'll focus more on dancing i think, take some pictures and do some small video clips (but i doubt the quality will be acceptable ^^).

alright guys, i'm back. last night i had the possibility to see aphex twin (and hecker) live for the first time. there were some technical problems at the beginning and the end of the set, but well, it's all about the music :) ! it was loud, very loud. maybe the bass was a bit too hard, but somehow it was good ^^. he closed the set with his "run the place red" remix, what a great choice! the crowd was completely freaking out. till then, most of the listeners were looking at the screen without moving or just went away. what a bunch of motionless tits, i felt sorry for richard!

maybe someone recorded the whole thing, just got some crappy 30 sec clips!

it was unbelievable seeing the man himself in front of me for the first time. 3 years i had to wait :) . when he dropped that lords of acid track at the beginning all people started jumping! "daaarling come heeere, fuck me up the..." BAM BAM BAM BAM :D ! awesome.

awesome dude. He's also supposed to be playing some show today/tomorrow. The Italia Wave, Love festival or something like that. Hopefully we can get some good clips of his set.

someone who commented on my youtube vids told me that he saw a person filming nearly the full gig with his camcorder. guess we have to wait...

lets hope he is willing to share - I ve seen people like this before on his gigs and none of them did upload something
