The forum is back. General Banter posts with no replies in the last 6 months have been removed. I will try to bring these back in a read-only format.

Also, accounts with zero posts and no logins for a year were removed.

We've shrunk our database size from 1 gig to about 350 megs, which is a good start, but it will grow again.

This is a temporary solution, we're trying to reduce our hosting footprint in order to remain viable on this $6/month hosting plan. As you might have seen in the offline message, we're also looking at moving to a private server.

This would also mean we'd be able to bring back the full post collection, and potentially do other cool stuff.

To make that happen, we need $240 to secure a server for 6 months. While we were down, someone was nice enough to send in $10. Another person pledged about $40. If another 4 people did that, we'd be almost there. If you want to help keep WATMM going strong into 2010, Joyrex has set up a paypal account for donations:

but if you move to a dedicated server, what happens in six months when the money runs out?

4 or 5 years ago we were in a situation where watmm relied on member donations to stay on a dedicated server

and it did not prove to be sustainable.

the $10 a month plan might work out OK, as Tauboo suggests.

Five years later regular members are now CEO's of multinational pharmaceutical conglomerates. I've received word down the WATMM grapevine that they will be sponsoring the new WATMMCORP

I'm with Kakapo on this one, mcbpete has weilded his sceptre of televisual power over this board for too long. Five isn't even a proper channel anyway.

The server we had at the time was $99/month. $40/month is a lot easier to raise.

We already have an "unlimited" plan. The problem is we share this server with hundreds of other accounts, and we're using most of the CPU, so all the other sites get slowed down. It reached a point where they had to take our site offline to avoid affecting all the other customers. With a private server, that's no longer an issue.
