Frank Zappa was totally against drugs. Everyone else isn't because they are actually fun.

Frank Zappa was a badass guitar player. Aphex is too, but he won't admit it.

Zappa had a fucking weird nose.

I can see where one might think there are similarities, for instance the intricate, complex & often chaotic rhythms & melodies. However, their approach to making

music is quite different. Zappa applies a freeform, Jazz-like improvisation to his music, whereas Rich admits he knows EXACTLY what he wants out of a track when

he enters the studio, & each programmed micro-sound is there for a reason.

That's a good description. I can't listen to Zappa without wondering what the hell he's trying to say or do. Jazz improv is bullshit.. you can't have true improv with a bunch of theory rules guiding you at the same time.

Music: Learn about it.

They both have well-written wikipedia articles?

The music and career aspects are completely different, but they have a similar fuck-off attitude and make music they want to make without compromise. Both have messed around and experimented heavily with equipment. They get name-checked by a lot of artists.

That's about it really. Zappa had an asteroid named after him, Aphex didn't. Aphex eventually got a haircut, Zappa didn't.

IMO

check out Puppy Gristle, you'll see what I mean.

think about it.. music is expression. why do we need to rules to define how to express ourselves? it's a semi-oxymoron. true improv is letting whatever happens.. happen.

He looks like the 70's italian porn actor stereotype. His music doesn't sound bad I must say.

jazz is about playing with the rules, fucking with the rules, and breaking the rules. but first you have to learn the rules.

Read the rules.

Richard said he prefers going into music knowing exactly how it will be, and how it will come out. but what about when he is up on a stage? there is improv there. like, does he not care for improv? i guess that is where i lose him, unless i'm misinterpretting it
