alegorik 03a

and look at his new poster

Are you serious? Those were all uploaded this year (most fairly recently). It looks more like this person is blatantly ripping off the ISO50 style- look at this:

alegorik 01a

I'm not the biggest fan of his music (though I am liking the newer stuff a little better), but I don't think anyone can deny the man's skills as a designer. His blog is great as well (Jakub has some great music posts with streaming audio)

oh yeah.. i forgot, youre a great designer once you have good photoshop/illustrator/such skills..

No, and don't insult the designers here - if anything, the prevalence of software to assist people in making "design" is the very reason your comment is so far off base to begin with.

eh, I'd say Tycho's stuff is very mediocre.

kind of speaks to his music eh? the one thread one on song of his and we are bickering about his graphics. lol.

To be fair, the focus was the music; others decided to comment about his artwork.

well, this topic has been discussed to DEATH on watmm and elsewhere before.

concerning both his music and his design work, you can't deny that he is very talented.

concerning both his music and his design work, you can't deny that he borrows heavily from familiar sources. he just does it very very well.

i've had the new track on repeat on my iPod today and I'm liking it very much.

well put.

Guest Lady kakapo

kakapo's had another nervous breakdown, and I didn't think this news would have helped him, but he says he's going to try and raise the $18,000 to buy all 1000 copies. I'm assuming to melt back down again, because otherwise his breakdown is much worse than we thought.

Nice artwork indeed, I really love as his ISO50 stuff. As for the music...I've only ever heard Past Is Prologue once, maybe twice. I'm curious how he has evolved or will evolve.

i have so much love for Tycho.

God Bless Merck for putting it up on my screen.

Ghostly International is soooo fucking the next level record label.

I remember when i first bought Dabrye 'One/Three' and flipped my shit.

There's some stuff on Ghostly I don't really care for though. Guess that goes for most labels. I like Dabrye, Michna, Midwest Product. Solvent's alright. I've heard a few others that didn't do much for me. I DISliked Dykehouse for sure.

Have you heard Tadd Mullinix's (aka Dabrye) Winking Makes a Face? Good stuff there.

i love the Mullinix album. it started a whole new thing at the time it was released. a very influential album.

i would agree. Ghostly splits down the middle for me. Lusine is worth a listen side

please send my best wishes

if it will help to speed his recovery, i'm prepared to download every tycho track that i can find, straight to my recycle bin.

I've heard/have a few Lusine albums but they never left that big of an impression on me.

Listening to Past is Prologue and Sunrise Projector while biking through the park in the middle of summer 2006 will always be a good memory of mine. I agree that his art isn't really original, that kind faded retro throwback style/image is relatively popular among designers nowadays, but he does do a good job with it. I'll be going to the event this Friday, might post a mini-review if it's either really good or really bad. Haven't listened to any of his new stuff (wasn't an album due like 2 years ago?) but I think he's heading towards more of a dance direction so it should be cool to see what he can pull off live.

yes he is talented

but he steals ideas for his music from boc and his artwork is just a pretty well done interpretation on something that is all over the photoshop tutorial pages at the moment

so he is some kind of flashbulb-alike to me

I also don't like the $500 price tag on something that is all over deviant art and costs $100 to print!

here you can clearly see what they are all about

Edited by o00o

Yeah exactly you can not just take a real good painting and repaint it and then claim its worth the original

the emotional evolution behind, that originally took the artist to the point where he did it is completely missing

Fucking LOL, he wrote the tutorials (in a magazine) on how to do techniques like his long before everyone started aping his style... as for stealing ideas for his music from BoC... if that's your logic, then BoC steals ideas from the NFBOC for their music...

yeah i can't really enjoy his music without feeling like he's ripping off boc, even if on paper it is well made and all.

BoC don't have the nostalgic melody market cornered, y'know.

its ok to steal but only when the result is better

thats what I also dislike about flashbulb - he steals but its not getting better from it

clark for example steals too but he is always adding something that makes it worth it

Well, what you would consider "better" and what I consider "better" are purely opinion...

Also, what's wrong with charging a premium for your art, and as well offering a version that anyone can afford?

yeah generally i think he's generally all right at what he does and that... but it just seems so plain to me. he's doesn't really even sound like BOC very much or anything... it's more like, ulrich schnauss but without "the tunes" for me.

i feel like a dick saying this, but it's almost like he's the ideal future music/computer arts (and their ilk) magazine reader who ardently reads every article in there and gets all the gear and stuff and just does this sort of vanilla music really well.

lol, that photoshop tutorial that I referred to above was in Computer Arts :emotawesomepm9:

flashbulb is not bad too

just a bit to much out of the box (from a technical aspect)

that's more probably because it's one new track after 4 years or something... oh wait, he is copying BOC :emotawesomepm9:

No, he released a track (Cascade [live]) on the Ghostly Swim compilation (which is free for download), earlier this year...

That's pretty funny actually :lol::boc:

I still say he's a kick-ass designer anyway...

this thread is funny. he is a great designer. is he original? no. but he is very good at what he does and deserves a lot of credit for being successful in 2 areas of art completely on his own.

i have the adult swim album with his other newer song on it but found it completely forgettable, especially compared to a lot of other songs on there. so how is this coastal break song?

Well, I know what I say won't matter, but I think it's a great track. His best? No, but very very good.

You can hear a sample in the link I provided in my original post.
