I'm not anti-American. I've lived in the States. I have American friends irl, had American girlfriends in the past, work with Americans on a daily basis. Some of my literary and musical heroes are American. They have their foibles like any other nationality. However, there does seem to be something peculiarly 'American' about the elitist or secret society/subforum. Take fraternties/sororities for instance. They don't exist in the UK, for the simple reason if someone tried to set one up, they'd be laughed at. It would be seen as extremely infantile, a game of 'who wants to be in my gang' straight from the school playground.

I was aware of the LTM forum first time round, and thought it was tacky then, but didn't bother bringing it up. But I'll restate my grievance, prompted by Joyrex's assertion in this thread that if you don't like the idea it's due to you being jealous and immature:
