It's already been around for 10...

Once again: there WAS a LTM forum, somebody outed it, got closed, so all the LTM accounts were moved to EKT Plus, something got screwed up in the db, etc.

Any screenshots of the LTM forum you may have seen are old, or doctored.

The main reason the LTM forum was hidden was this very reason - people knowing about it's existence would whine and moan about how it wasn't fair, etc. that some were allowed in, some were not - I can't understand why people got so worked up about something like a forum they couldn't read - it's a forum - it's not like it contained special downloads or exclusive content or anything - it was just a haven from the regular forum for those who either had been on the site many years, were active contributors to the community (not financially), or were overall cool people - just like you have a group of regulars at a pub or a club, you can't expect somebody who's just walked through the door to just join in a group like that - it puts the regulars off, as they really don't know this new person, and it makes the new person feel awkward (not the member).

Over time, if that new person came on a regular basis, was friendly, actively participated in pub/club activities, and was generally liked by everyone there, then he or she would be welcomed into that group of regulars and recognized for their contribution to the establishment. Sounds normal/alright when put in that context, doesn't it? Nobody else would bat an eyelash at it normally, except those who felt some pangs of jealousy over it, which is a bit immature in the context.

I have made a financial contribution (usually a modest $10, I don't post too often anymore) whenever a request for server costs has been made, including the most recent couple of months. I find the idea of an LTM forum, and your defense of one, infantile. However, it's simply outrageous that some of those who contributed financially to the site were unknowingly supporting some kind of secret members club. It's shameful. And that shame extends to the idiots who instigated and populated this secret forum. And I really fucking resent, "except those who felt some pangs of jealousy over it, which is a bit immature in the context."

Again, my financial and other contributions to the site have been modest. But it wouldn't surprise me if there were others who were more generous. I think there are some people due an apology. And if there is still some secret forum, and bearing in mind the fact there was one in the first place undermines your credibility, then please delete my WATMM account.

One final thing. To those LTMs who did not bring its existence to the attention of others, and I know there were some that did, and got off on your exclusive circle jerk clique, you're a bunch of unmitigated cunts. And I mean that in a 'real life' sense, not through the persona of a moustachioed Jimmy Nail.

First: Since there isn't a LTM forum anymore, this shouldn't be an issue/bother you in the slightest anymore, and your financial contribution put you in the Knob Twiddler group, which has extended abilities/privileges over "regular" (aka non-paying) members - doesn't that make you no better (or worse) than the "elitist" ex-LTM members?

I was given EKT privelidges when I purchased WATMM volume one. I may be mistaken, but I don't remember requesting them at the time, although I did ask for them to be returned after one of the crashes. I've made financial contributions since then. I'm not sure the ability to edit a post is equivalent to having membership of some secret club, and I certainly don't think anybody takes a blind bit of notice what colour my name is written in.

Also, while appreciated, financial contributions do NOT equal exclusive rights to any forum/subforum, unless specifically stated otherwise. I think you'll find this to be common practice on any internet forum (or real-life club). There are as many, if not more members who have contributed financially in support of this site, and have been banned just as easily as a non-paying member. Again, financial contributions do NOT equal exclusive rights other than ones specifically outlined in any subscription packages (which will be coming back once the Subscriptions application for this version of the board is out of Release Candidate status, which should be soon).

You seemed to have misunderstood my grievance. I'll spell it out.

Website asks for contribution from members for server costs. A secret subforum is then set up which is in a sense partly paid for by the contributions of people who have no access and weren't even supposed to know it existed. When concerns are raised, people are told it's simply because we're 'jealous' and 'immature'. Are you seriously suggesting that you're confused why people may take offense at all this?

Ah yes, Knob Twiddler memberships were given out when WATMM Vol. 1 was offered for sale. I forgot about that, but essentially, that's the same thing, no?

While your argument is essentially correct that your contribution DOES pay for features on the site that you may not necessarily benefit from, it is my discretion, as the site owner, as to what those funds go to pay for - whether it be the monthly server costs, upgrades to the forum software, new software, etc. - if you never visited EKT, should you feel slighted paying for it so others can utilize it's features, even though you may not (or perhaps cannot if you don't make music) yourself?

It is also your discretion whether or not you donate (operative word being "donate", not require) funds to continue it's operation. I am confused as to why anyone would take offense at there being any forums that one would or would not have knowledge of and/or have access to, simply because it's a messageboard about electronic music - unless people are going around rubbing their privilege in each other's face, I see no reason someone should be offended by not being able to access an area that for whatever reason, they have not been given access to begin with.

The bottom line is there isn't a LTM forum anymore, contrary to what anyone says, and this is more about this misguided perception of equality and fairness more than keeping the existence of a now defunct forum a secret.

No actually, I think I find it to be completely the opposite of that, including the two car forums I run, a fee ensues access to all areas of the forums. This is also the case in real life clubs, the only way there is any difference is if it is different in America than is is to Europe in the way you run your clubs. I am a member of 27 clubs both internet and in real life and a fee ensues "full membership rights", on all of them.

However there are no stated "donation" rules on any of the clubs I belong to, you either pay your fee and get full access or you don't pay a fee and you get limited access, with no membership discounts on parts etc. There is no such thing as a "middle-groud" regarding donations, so I guess this is where the flaw lies in WATMM.
