i think the title is actually referring to golden showers...

both golden showers (a hobby of eno's in the seventies was collecting pornographic playing cards - there's one on the cover) and also fripp's guitar in the title track, which is supposed to sound like a warm jet. and indeed it does.

i always get a mental image of a commercial starting with people smiling, boarding a plane, being served drinks, etc., and ending with them plummeting to their doom in the middle of a vast ocean when i listen to 'burning airplanes give you so much more' from taking tiger mountain.... it's so cheery

edit: eno is very good at retroactively making things that were essentially down to chance sound like they were part of some intentional creative process. the 'invention of ambient' was a far more accidental musical evolution than he likes to make out that it was.

as regards roxy... the first two (maybe even the first three or four, eno's influence has a long tail) roxy music albums are incredible.

watch eno own proceedings even though he doesn't do a lot on the track (but i'm sorry - if i could get away walking around dressed like roxy era eno, i would). no wonder byron ferrari got annoyed.

lots of good roxy music live on this site. the more i look at it, the more i think roxy music invented stereolab

the album version of that track fades out with a fake ending, then fades back in again, heavily effected (it's the end of side one)

so eno is sort of approximating that

when this rocks out at the end... it rocks out.

I'm about a third of the way into this book at the moment:

A good read, and consequently I'm immersing myself in everything Eno right now. Most interesting revelation I've read so far is that Eno claims to have appeared in a couple of porno movies around the turn of the 70s, before Roxy Music took off. No proof of this has ever been found, however...

Also, I had naturally assumed that Eno had come from a wealthy/well-off background, what with that ludicrous "Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno" full name. But infact his father and grandfather were postmen.
