Chiastic Slide / Envane EP

calbruc-into-recury isn't bad, it's just not a standout.

cipater blew me away the first time i heard it. one of the ae songs that made me want to put down the (bass mostly) guitar and noodle with reason. the way it transitions from the first to second part is fucking sick, also the way the second part has a asiany feel to it. awesome.

The only redeeming element of this track is the fax machine at the end.

Also, recury is great - it's all about the driving beat and the subtle ways the track mutates over 9+ minutes

Cipater is amazing, but I wish Ae had done more with the first rhythm of the track. It's one of my favorite beats by them and I want a full EP with re-inventions of it like Basscadet. Or I will destroy the internet

THATS HOW U NO U GOD WHEN YOU GOTA MODEL AND SHE THROW UP ON YO DICK BECAUSE ITS SO BIG AND YOUR IN A LIMO GOING TO A LIL B CONCERT - Lil B

I swear I hear trumpets in the background of Hub. It's like an implied trumpet, invisitrumpets, but a chorus of trumpets. i've never heard that in this song. and it fades out with an electronic fizzle

And a crowd of people laughing at me throughout Recury. holy fuck, why would they put that implied sound in the song i cant listen to this theyre constantly laughing at me. This song is actually stressing me out. Sometimes its almost like a crowd of monkeys making their monkey noises in your general direction but the rest of the time its a crowd laughing

gotta say this is a really underrated release but is not top notch either. A couple of tracks (like Hub) really let it down, I put it down to the track listing. Hub doesn't really work with this album in my opinion. Chiastic is the first time it really felt like Autechre were deliberately pushing boundaries, experimenting with new technology and whatnot (I think they started using max around this time). It's pretty hit and miss, but when it hits it fucking HITS, man. But it's not just like "this song is good, this song is bad", there's serious highs and some less impressive moments throughout each track. To be honest I'd change the track listing around to help it flow a bit better.

Oh and Envane is one of the best EPs in electronic music ever.

interesting you would say AE only started heavily experimenting with Chiastic, i'd say that Chiastic is just an evolution of the sounds on Tri Repeate. a lot more harsh but of a similar style, really degraded dithered sounds warped beyond recognition

Chiastic Slide stays in a very special place in my heart. I purchased it the day it came out, it was a privilege for me at the time having just gotten really into Autechre and having collected Incunabula, Amber and Tri Repeate to be able to hear an amazing new album by them. I had a similar experience when Come to Daddy came out, at the time i was the biggest AFX/ae fanboy ever i thought i had discovered some of the most amazing music in the world and wanted to show everybody. This era of idm is probably the peak for me

same, hah.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

yes indeed, tewe is very nice. it's one of those ones that i think of after i've already thought of my super boner tracks, but every time i listen to it's like omgsuperboner where did that come from?

@hauntingsoul- you know who the clown sweater man is?

i should just wait until i listen to everything then post but hey what the hell, every time i listen to these songs i feel slightly different about them anyway

pule is a nice ambient song that doesn't sound like anything else i've ever heard (besides other ae of course). i always kind of imagine a building click throughout the whole song, even though there is no beat and i can't really tell what time signature it might be in, or if it's consistent. i always thought about doing one of these ambient songs live with a drumset/guitar behind it to give it a bit more structure. this is such a beautiful track though, especially the end.

calbruc is ok, it's not a bad ae song by any means, but it's just not.... moving. i'm really enjoying that steamboat sample (maybe?) in recury. actually reminds me of this live song i made using a few steamboat samples in the background.

nuane has one of the best beats ever composed ever. i love the initial dancing synth, and the other one (3:00) reminds me a breakdancing inner city fellow. i realllllly wish that they changed up that low synth a bit, the same m3 loop every 5 seconds gets a little old after 11 minutes. obviously repetition is a big part of ae, but sometimes it hinders rather than helps IMO. the building glitchy synth gives the song such a long phrased feel (?) that just walks slowly on to the end of the song.

god i'm such a tool

Yeah, that laugh! I always pictured this sound as a laughing ghost.

Definitely one of the most intriguing Autechre tracks for sure.

Nuane hands down

As we both said several times, Nuane is their best tune!

@ theSun: No idea who the guy in the sweater is, please tell me. Is it you?

anyways tewe, great track. I've always felt it sounds like robot spiders in a sewer pipe or something. The resonance on the beat is a really cool effect.

also today I was listening to Latent Quarter. One of my all time top 5 ae tracks for sure, and I was listening to it while I blazed a bowl. I walked to the place and packed the bowl in the initial chunk before the track glitches out and the bass drops back in. Then I just made sure to do all the motions in sync with some of the noises and it was tons of fun. Lighter flick, puff, puff, hold, exhale, exhale. fucking lol. Then I stopped to pack a bowl of crystals right when the wobbly bass line comes in towards the 3rd quarter. It kicked in right as i was packing the bowl, and I waited to hit it until the beat drops back in right overtop of the bass the second time. Great track, went perfectly in sync with what I was doing and I got good and baked.

still am.

wow I vicariously experienced that feeling through you. Thanks man. That must have been a shitload of good times. I didn't really get into autechre until just before Quaristice so I have only been a fan for one release so far.
