Battle Garegga definitely has one of the best video game soundtracks of the 90s.

I only discovered it last year via vgmdb, it's great, I love shooter soundtracks. But there are so many great soundtracks from the 90s, last of the sound chips.

I tried to get a convo going on this a while ago considering how amazing this OST is but to no avail: http://forum.watmm.com/topic/76846-battle-garegga-soundtrack/

Even though I really enjoy shmups, I still don't get the hype for Battle Garegga. Scoring is unnatural and scoring decently relies too much on obscure prowesses (that were probably unintended by the developers in the first place) only found in guides. Suiciding and bombing in specific places don't make the game enjoyable. Ketsui and DoDonPachi DaiOuJou are far more enjoyable, but I admit the comparison is unfair.
