Tessier Ashpool
Ok, so, picked this up on a total whim last week. Had sort of been on the radar but not a real "day one" thing for me. Still, had the urge to pick up something and since COD isn't out for a bit figured this would fill the void and provide at least moderate entertainment. A week later and I'm routinely staying up to some ungodly hour of the morning, blasting skags (wasteland dog-creatures) with my trust electro-charge shotgun and phase-walking invisible style around unexpectant roided baddies, reappearing with a shockwave and stun-meleeing so they move in slo-mo and I can repeatedly shoot them in the face with little danger. I've never even played Diablo, though this is supposedly partly in the vein of that game, and I've never been one for the whole RPG scene, but God-DAMN the combination of twitch shooting and the ever present carrot-on-a-stick upgrades and leveling opportunities have left me bleary eyed come morning and itching to get back to it during the day. Anyway, apparently I'm not the only one, as last week there were SHORTAGES of available copies all along the East Coast and in Canada for the 360. I can't remember the last time that Best Buy didn't always have at least an extra 30 copies of any new release, so this is somewhat surprising. Anyone else caught the bug? Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
I was just gonna buy it yesterday and then I saw a reloaded rip of the PC version, Im glad I didnt buy it cause the multiplayer on pc has some issues, you cant change any of the voice options and the voice in game has problems. finding servers freezes your comp and everyone had to open ports to host games. The framerates dropped considerably as soon as I finally was able to get my homies in my game. 360 version reported just minor framerate drops with huge battles but sure the 360 is a better experience until this game is patched significantly. That being said I think game is wicked when you put the few but huge flaws it as out of mind. I have been waiting forever for well made visceral intense combat in a RPG setting and MMOs have flawless graphics and combat like this my life is over. Tessier Ashpool
fucking WIN Obel - I'll get on Castle Crashers by next paycheck . . . or before. I haven't played Co-OP yet but the consensus is that Borderlands is even more awesome with it - though, frankly, I've had a blast (haha) just wandering around in single player. It depends - I'm sure part of the reason I'm enjoying it as much as I am is a)I had zero expectations going in b)I have an addictive personality and c)I'm willing to overlook the bugs/somewhat stupid AI because of the wealth of good shit that's there It takes a least a couple of hours to get into the game proper - I mean, the first 10 missions are really training it feels like, getting you accustomed to the variety of things you can do. Not boring necessarily, but still time consuming so if you only have a weekend to spend . . . If you are on the fence you might want to save your cash for some of the bigger name titles like Assassin's Creed, COD, etc. cause I'm sure this will drop in price sometime soon. Put it this way - if you loved Fallout 3 because you enjoyed wandering a wasteland and shooting crap, but you wished it was less story heavy and more FPS-ey, you'd probably love this game. It's certainly less "story" centric (which I really did love about Fallout) so if you're looking for engaging plot you won't find it. My girlfriend was watching a friend of mine try it out and she was like, "it doesn't seem like anything is happening." Which is true, if you expect lots of cut-scenes, story, etc. Edited October 27, 2009 by T35513R Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Tessier Ashpool's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/50204-borderlands-game/#findComment-1153832 Share on other sites
Joyrex
I've read some good things about this (although I did note that the PS3 version needs a patch), and I was considering this (although it's a bit hard when there's so many other games coming out that I'd want as well (Tekken 6, Ratchet and Clank, FIFA 10, Modern Warfare 2, Buzz! Quiz World) - am I right in guessing it's Fallout 3-ish? Haven't watched any videos of it yet, but the impressions I've read make it seem like it's very fun and addictive. Tessier Ashpool
@JR - yeah, definitely Fallout 3ish, though I find myself spending a lot more time fighting shit than managing my inventory. I'll tell you what, though, that's there if you want it. The game excels at providing you a lot of options on how you want to play - you could spend HOURS just sifting through all the potential weapons, but you could easily get away with just running around and fucking shit up and picking up the rare but powerful weapons a boss drops. The missions are great because you can have a laundry list to complete and switch between them if you find the one you're on to be too hard or boring. Guest theSun
so this game is 2 player local co-op, correct? and 4 player online co-op? what about online versus modes, or is the game totally PvE? i'm big on just hanging with some buds and playing games for a while. data
i was thinking about getting this, but the fact that it's not as much story driven as fallout 3 put me off a little. on the other hand, i played WoW for 4 years, which was all about loot for me, i didn't give a damn about the story / lore or whatever. still though, there's still like 4 or 5(?) fallout 3 expansions i'd like to play through, i just have a craving for something new after beating uncharted 2 ..hmm! Tessier Ashpool
Yeah, supposed to be split-screen-able and also 4 player online - you can set to "accept duels" which means that if someone melee's you in multiplayer you go into a duel mode . . . there's also an "arena" area where you can fight other people, but haven't played online yet so not sure exactly how that works. Leveling in multiplayer is supposed to happen reflective of the level of the individuals in your party - not sure exactly how that works, but supposedly it means you can play with a party of a variety of different levels and still have it been challenging but not impossible. Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
okay well after turning off my in game chat with the config turning voiceenabled to false(talking on steam chat is better than the in game voice, due to the lack of setup options) opening the 4 ports the game uses on my router the multiplayer is fucking incredible, finally played 4 player MP COOP last night, me and my friend were level 21s, we got a level 32 in and later a level 3. we had to babysit the level 3 whom leveled up to 11 pretty quick in the short time we had to hardcore babysit him it was really fun. So yah looks like they did a pretty good job with that automatic level challenge adjustments you were talking about. The graphics are pretty flawless on a decent computer, 7 billion parts crack for reals Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/50204-borderlands-game/#findComment-1154696 Share on other sites

thehauntingsoul
I'm totally ready for this game as soon as I have some extra cash. Who's got it on 360? I wanna play some co-op with you watmm fuckers as soon as I get my live account re-activated. But yeah this game looks awesome. It seems to distinguish itself really well from Fallout while still borrowing alot of the things that made Fallout so great. Also I love how they decided to go with cel-shaded graphics because that one feature really distinguishes it as a separate game. Although this is just impressions I get from previews and such. I'm sure the actual game goes alot deeper in distinguishing itself. As for the lack of storyline, honestly that's really what I'm into about this game. Fallout was great but like holy fuck who knew post-apocalyptic wastelanders had so much useless shit to say!!! Sometimes you just wanna turn on your xbox and fuck some shit up and see arms flying around and shit. anyways I will definitely get this when I have cash. I've kept an interest in this game ever since the first time I saw the previews, and It's really the first time I've been excited about a new release since prototype. Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
The dialog is really well done, I wouldn't say the storyline is not there its just not thrown in your face as an unavoidable distraction from the amazing coop gameplay, graphics, addiction to items, guns, leveling up. I can now confirm this is definitely a game you can beat with your friends 5 times over. Im sure there will be people who put in obscene hours into this game as the gameplay is a lot better and contains all the addictive properties of the rpgs that people have played over and over for years. Ditto to any and all in this thread - I can't always chat because I often play while my GF sleeps on the couch, but would love to connect w/other WATMMers and blow crap up together. Patch came out this morning, though doesn't look like the savefile corruption problem was addressed. Still, though, looks like Gearbox is working hard on support for this, so would expect a patch for that soon (supposed to be a very rare glitch, though that's tempting Murhpy's law, ain't it?). Playing with the Siren and at level 22 right now - shit opens up a lot once you get to the mission where you activate the fast travel system. Good progression of new and interesting enemies, weapons, etc and going back to an old area once you're leveled up and wasting some of the early baddies with abandon is more fun than it should be.
