Americans, what are your thoughts on deodorant/cologne?

Recommended Posts

Deodorant after every shower.

Cologne if dinner is going to cost more than $60 for two, or special occasions.

I wear deodorant of course but my use and like of cologne had been rekindled lately. I received a few bottles as payment for a small design job I did for a friend. one of them is Marc Jacobs latest cologne called bang. it smells of black pepper, patchouli, and some woodsy stuff. it is very unique. I have been alternating with that and kiehl's cucumber oil.

I just rub some nice smelling deoderant on my pits in the morning and I'm good to go for the rest of the day. I'll apply a second time before a night out.

guys who dont like cologne just havent used any good ones. there are some really amazing colognes out there. used subtly, of course.

Eau de Cologne used to describe scented formulations from Cologne, Germany but today is a generic term for scented formulations in typical concentration of 2-5% essential oils.

From Wiki:

  Quote
Perfume extract, or simply perfume (Extrait): 15-40% (IFRA: typical 20%) aromatic compounds

Esprit de Parfum (ESdP): 15-30% aromatic compounds, a seldom used strength concentration in between EdP and perfume

Eau de Parfum (EdP), Parfum de Toilette (PdT): 10-20% (typical ~15%) aromatic compounds, sometimes listed as "eau de perfume" or "millésime"

Eau de Toilette (EdT): 5-15% (typical ~10%) aromatic compounds

Eau de Cologne (EdC): Chypre citrus type perfumes with 3-8% (typical ~5%) aromatic compounds

Perfume mist: 3-8% aromatic compounds (typical non-alcohol solvent)

Splash and After shave: 1-3% aromatic compounds

I haven't read this thread but I just wanted to ask:

I don't use deodorants, just natural products or nothing, whenever I try to use commercial deodorants they make my armpits sting reallllllly bad now, like pouring alcohol on a open wound. And no, I don't smell of BO that bad, even compared to people who use deodorants with perfume, besides they can only mask so much, I don't think it's a battle you can win.

In central asian cultures, there seems to be no such thing as BO. I don't know if they have less sensitive smell receptors than those in the West, or if it is considered a pleasant smell.

According to posts here. it must be the same in American culture.

i rub shit all over myself, fuck my girlfriend, and then head into the office.

I rarely wear deodorant, and when I do, it's the shit without aluminum in it. I use some Indian Soap that prevents BO naturally. It's weird.

Cologne is stupid.
