My practice takes the breath as the object of mindfulness, and various things as the object of concentration, depending on the 'stage' of the practice (so you're either counting or following or feeling the breath or something else).

I wouldn't get as much out of a day-long or week-long retreat on my own as I would with a teacher who gives talks about the practice during the day and night too. It's a cool way to take a vacation!
