I do, Rock and Roll, Stairway to Heaven and When the Levee Breaks are awesome, the rest suck. To me album no 4 signifies the downfall of Led Zeppelin.

Going to California? Wow I love that track. Great track to listen to stoned.

Mmmm. If you played Beethoven to me I might have the same opinion. But he would be Beethoven so I would be wrong. So instead of using words like overrated and average I'd just shrug my shoulders and say 'it's not my cup of tea brother' and move on.

i'm not a phony. i use terms like overrated and average because zeppelin fans use terms like best in the world and nº1 guitarist...

their music is technically average which makes me look at them as overrated since there's loads of other bands with the same skill not getting enough recognition... i mean, their guitarist must have won best guitarist of all the rock magazines or at least features their top ten, that's pretty ridiculous... of course i know YOU don't care about magazines and that you already listened to zeppelin before paper was even invented... :)

what i might say it's not my cup of tea is in fact their main roots, the blues... and when they enter the high astral hippie sitar oriental mode OMFG it's cringe worthing...

Lol, a hint of sarcasm? But it's true!!!

I hate the Beatles for all the reasons you describe for Led Zep!! I am just putting my point forward mate, tbh I don't really give a shit who likes them or not.

when the levee breaks is on my shortlist of musical works of significance of the last 50 years.

edit: lol that was a super douchey way to say that it is a stone-cold classic. epic in every sense of the word.

I love everything by de 'Zepp. Except Four Sticks. That song is fucking awful.

I love that track. I like the drumming and the weird timing. It also just feels like a forgotten classic rock anthem or something. I like it better than their bluesy "stolen" shit at least. I like it better than "rock and roll" anyways, and black dog.

Oh fuck. Sorry, I thought you were talking about "out on the tiles". Still, Four sticks seems like a weird track to hate, it is pretty good I think. It sounds like radiohead.

I love me some Led Zep, proud to own original pressings of both II and Houses of the Holy on vynil... I've been hanging with my girlfriend's family this weekend and I was wearing my Led Zep hoodie, gf's little sister asked me "what's your hoodie all about?" to which I replied "You've never heard of Led Zeppelin?" to which she said no. This made me kinda sad on the inside I get that she's a 12 year old girl, but still... I knew all the classics like Zep, The stones, and the beatles when I was like 5. I know I'm making myself sound old but damn, kids these days really do listen to shit... which was confirmed later that day when she declared NIkki MInaj as being awesome...

I do remember learning about how much shit they completely and unfairly ripped off from blues musicians early on in their career; luckily the rest of their catalogue offsets that. I mean shit, Elvis had some cool songs and the mfer ripped off everyone that wasn't white at that time.

I think these days Im more of a Sabbath fan, but I will always remember Houses of the Holy as one of my favorite albums growing up.

  • 1 year later...

I'm fine with Zep. They got some bangerz. But, what ruined them for me was the ripping off of riffs from lesser known bands & hijacking them for their own use.

Thanks user487363530. And user4873635301. Now 48736353001.

My favorite Led Zeppelin track of all time is 'In My Time Of Dying'.

so epic

so riffs

I recently downloaded and having been listening to the 'Rocky Mountain Hop' soundboard bootleg recording from 1975 which has an excellent version of this.

What do you mean ripped off. Every white rock band was playing blues riffs at the time. And when jimmy page did, they fucking kicked arse. It was a powerful package, not seen before and not emulated since. I lost interest with houses of the holy though, they traded punch and magic for brunch with tragic. Probably the abuse on their bodies robbing them of the insight that informed the standards of their earlier work.

led zeppelin are great even if they ripped off a lot of their shit. for example stairway to heaven being basically a stolen song. i love the creepy way 'in the light' opens. lots and lots of great tracks. maybe more than any rockband, imo.

Zeppelin has to be the 2nd best band ever, shortly behind the Beatles.

I was having this talk with my wife about it the order day. I asked her (and I almost made a thread about this) "if you were to equate rock bands to the best classical composers, who would be who?"

I said that I had originally thought The Beatles would be Bach, but after some hard thinking, I think Zeppelin would be Bach (The Beatles would probably be Mozart and Sabbath would be Beethoven). My thought about this is that, even though Bach is arguably the greatest composer of all time, the Beatles wouldn't be Bach because Zeppelin were all better instrumentalists. I think Bach's compositions tend to lend themselves more to virtuosic performers. The Beatles were incredible composers but you couldn't say any of them were the best at their instrument. They were good, but not "Zeppelin" good. They were better at expressing emotions/stories through the music. I think that would likely equate better to Mozart.

I guess I thought Sabbath would be Beethoven because of their fire. I guess either them or Hendrix.... or Danzig :)

they played entire songs from other people's catalogs and didn't give them songwriting credit in the original album liner notes. that's the issue, not the fact that they basically covered a bunch of songs.

I'm one in the great minority that prefer their latter four albums to their first four. Hell, even Coda has some awesome tracks from their later years

yeah yeah so fucking what (not to above post)

slagging off led zep is a bit silly imo, you may not like them, thats your personal opinion. I hate the fucking Beatles, I know thats just me and my brain is just wired up slightly off kilter. Beatles are brilliant but its not for me.

led zep are killer, no fucking doubt. If you don't like it? then move on my friend.

Sorry, i didn't realise that. I'll have to go through the thread to find the link that outlines this. Hah ,, !! I wondered why everyone on that page seemed so sombre.
