for people who don't have the TB303 fetishism sickness, Rebirth and other emulators are just as satisfying, i have a feeling ZAZ will get a lot of fun out of rebirth

for those of us who do... How much can I pick one up for? I've dabbled in ebay, and seen some go for about $ 400 US, should I trust ebay? Anyone want to sell me one

400 USD seems a bit low.. Maybe in the states they're cheaper, i don't know.

yeah $40o is definitely too low, you're going to spend at least $1,000 dollars on one inside the US ,although recently ive noticed they've gone down slightly in price (probably because of the over saturation in 303 fetishism) where as the 808 just keeps going up

Luverly, just what we need, another 303 newbie churning out crap

acieed.

To all those who don't understand WHY there's such a fascination w/ the

303, it's simple - nothing sounds quite like it. How many synths do

you know that negatively modulate filter cutoff while simultaneously

modulating VCA & resonance? Not possible w/ anything but modulars, OB

Matrix synths, and the lowly 303. Plus, the per-step portamento makes

for some very FUNKY sequences.

"Oh, it's a fad, it'll go away soon" has been the mantra of the

clueless for far too long, while 303 prices go up & up. Now that the

303 thang's been going on for OVER 6 years, there are a lot of

no-talent bandwagon jumpers out there, committing such idiocies as -

1) adding CV ins to their 303s, not realizing that they're missing out

on the Accent & Slide (portamento);

2) using one of the numerous clones & not programming in Accent &

Slides;

3) using samples of a 303 (UGGGH!). Talk about boring & souless.

For every cool 303 based record, such as "The Calling" by APL, "The

Final Frontier", by Underground Resistance, or "Acsperience" by

Hardfloor , there are 20 total shit records w/ a random 303 sequence w/

no character. "Duh, punch on the buttons - that sounds cool..."

Then there are the people that never hear any of this music, and say

"What's the hype? There's nothing special about a 303 - the bass isn't

THAT great." Buy a vowel, please - NOONE uses a 303 for bass. Just

because you owned one 10 years ago & never bothered to do anything cool

with doesn't mean that there aren't others that DO know how to exploit

its idiosyncracies.

Still, if you pay more than $200 for a 303, you're either an idiot or

you're planning on taking advantage of an idiot...

PEACEOUT

How does one create an acid bass?

Does it have to do with the amount of envelope or resonance or what?

Would I have to use a TB 303? I am curious.

Examples below..

Yea it did seem low to me, I've seen some go for 1300 + so either that $ 400 one was a bargain or a scam ><

Anyone know of any rehab centres to beat the 303 addiction? might be cheaper

save up to buy a real 303. i thought id never have one, until i figured out theyre only $1000-$1500. even if you get sick of it after a couple years, you can just sell it and get your money back, it maintains a standard value

until then, do as bcm said. make your acid with whatever software you use. i make wicked acid in ableton live, but i cant post it up for your own safety, your mind would collapse

if you don't wanna pay 700+ bucks on either a x0xb0x or a real tb-303. a fun and simple alternative is the 'audiorealism bassline' VST and one of these: http://www.korg.de/uploads/media/nanokonBild1.jpg . acid squelches doesn't neceseraly have to be made with a 303, you can use any synth with filters 'n shit! but it's way more fun tweaking it in real time with real knobs than a mouse or automation.
