I haven't thought too hard about it either, but my impression was that it was sort of a dark-comic spoof on daytime soaps, so what is so entertaining about it, and darkly, absurdly and sometimes frighteningly funny is all this weird, sometimes horrific shit going on around the world of the 'straight man' actors on the show. A lot of what gives Cooper (is that his name?) his character is his determination to continue on with the most mundane of rituals (his coffee and pie) in the midst of a batshit crazy world. I don't know if I'd say it has some profound thing to say about humanity, but I did find it entertaining.

And contrary to GBIII, I found season two to have jumped the shark.

i mean, nadine getting super-strength, the endless convolutions of the storyline, andy, cooper's tactics... is that not pretty obviously meant to be tongue-in-cheek? loads of it is just really silly and funny, in contrast with the darker stuff i guess.

i'm not a great fan of irony, but i think this more like an affectionate take off. that he liked the idea of a soap opera where you can really draw things out and let things slowly happen.

yeah, all this is why I love this show. and I like it simply because there is something comforting about it, it has this slow pace, everybody knows each other, nice surroundings.

and how... and I wouldn't recommend watching firewalk with me first, save that till the end.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I guess I just felt like the ending of the first season seemed like a natural stopping point for the story, so that season two seemed to be needlessly dragging things out, complicating them, making them ridiculous or adding extra elements to keep interest and losing the sense of unity that the first story arc had on its own.

see, there we go with the facepalms. explain, please, for fucks sake, why this show is actually good. i'm not shitting all over the beatles here, i'm saying a show that has all the characteristics of a bad movie is what it is: bad. so why is it good? is this an irony thing?

you have to watch PAST the 2nd episode..

basically yeah. i thought zaphod was supposed to be reasonably intelligent. why would you make such a solid decision about the whole thing and then make an angry thread about it after watching 1 partz. unless of course you're just being contrary and trolly with your sandy pussy.

I think ieafs hit it on the head.

Twin peaks is definitely not a massive artistic masterpiece or anything and the soapy aspect of it is a bit unappealing but it's part of what makes the whole thing so enjoyable, that you've got this daytime soap environment which has an occasionally extremely dark edge to it and some absolutely bizarre moments. I would imagine if I turned on the first episode when it came on TV I would have never watched it again but I suppose some people liked that kind of thing and kept watching and shortly found themselves watching batshit insane dream sequences and being caught off guard. I like how surprising it can be, once or twice I nearly shat myself. Plus I do find Kyle Maclachlans performance generally entertaining in itself.

edit:

didn't realise there was a 3rd page, everyone has said what I just said basically word for word

Lost Highway is my #1 ....then Eraserhead, Dune, Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart.

Watch the Twin Peaks movie first if you want to see it in proper order

I would seriously not do that, unless of course you want to spoil the first season and a half.....

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

okay I just watched mulholland drive. don't get why this gets so much praise really.

I can understand symbolism, but what the fuck is up with this movie, can't say that I enjoyed this to be honest.

It's a puzzle that you may not solve on first viewing - now that you've watched it, try reading some of the explanations out there, might give you added insight.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

yeah but it's all speculations, it could be anything you know what I mean? that's just not satisfying imo, I was mainly hoping for some good old, weird-ass atmosheres I guess.

I guess I sort of agree (though I though the body discovery scene was fantastic, I thought some of the lesbian stuff was silly), but I gained a new appreciation for the film after reading one of those "explanations" online. I picked up the general idea of the film while watching, but the explanation I read showed new ways in which everything is related, which I think were indeed intentional by Lynch. I think that's why it's satisfying; it seems like its his most structurally rigorous film.

yeah, maybe I need to watch it again. but I can't decide whether this film is intellectually rigorous or not at all right now, as I still think one could speculate forever about the message .

can you exlain what was special about the dead body scene though? I think I maybe didn't pay enough attention

not this one in my opinion, nene, it's a shame
