an ambient release would be nice too. He released that still thing, but that isn't at all what i'm talking about. No words would be ideal.

What about Ghosts I-VI? Some ambient on there if I recall

yeah, ghosts sounded like trent's "unfinished song ideas" folder on his computer. Some good ideas, but nothing really concrete in there. Nothing like an actual ambient album. Course I'm sure for someone coming off being a rock/industrial/whatever musician, marketing a moody ambient album would be a challenge. Especially since "the slip" being nine inch nails last album, was very bland.

the people where asking for a Trent Reznor ambient album, have you heard his Quake soundtrack? It's all mostly instrumental ambient and really fucking good that he made under his own name.

I like the minimal sparseness of Ghosts, i don't think it sounds like unfinished songs, its just left intentionally bare

this is mislabeled as 'nine inch nails' but its from the OST

in my opinion, this is the last very strong release Trent Reznor was part of. I'm not a huge fan of the Fragile or anything after

yeah, i agree about the 'unfinished song ideas'. i would love an ambient album with lots of stuff like a warm place and the really beautiful ambient stuff from still.

and re: the slip, yeah i guess it is a little bland, but it's freakin' fantastic live.

totally! that one track with all the whispering on it, it's a chill giver

yeah quake was awesome. Which is why I'm confident that he could make a really great ambient album. That soundtrack was amazing. I think he himself uploaded the separate tracks onto tbh (could be wrong about that though). I bought quake back when it came out just for the music, but ended up getting into the game.

Chris Vrenna's score for american mcgee's alice was awesome too.

As far as trent making an IDM or Electronic album, I would think he woulda done it by now if he were going to. Maybe not. I dunno. There was stuff on year zero that hinted in that direction. But it was too clouded by lyric driven compositions, and traditional rock instruments.

i guess for me Quake is a really great ambient album, i'd be really surprised if he made something that quality at this point

Ha! Truths you speak. He is done. I will eat my words happily though if proven wrong because everything from THM to Quake OST is solid. Everything NIN after TDS sux donkey dix however, with the exception of a track or 2 off the fragile. Further down the spiral is ok though, and introduced me to aphex so.....

Damn, ya Quake OST... haven't listened to it forever. I never listened to The Slip. I used to be such a NIN fanboy, but since The Fragile nothing has been very good, although I did like quite a few of the Ghosts tracks
