I will always respect him simply because of this April Fool's joke.

By far one of the greatest April fools jokes of all time .

And thank God Trent is still doing NIN shit .

wow, surprising that so many people here don't like the fragile! it's probably one of my favourite albums of all time.

and yeah, quake soundtrack was amazing. i should give it a listen again tonight, it's probably been about 10 years since i heard it!

His material isn't as solid as it was 10+ years ago, but there is always something on each album that I enjoy. I really liked the IDM-ish sound of many tracks on Year Zero, but it's true that the vocals/lyrics and rock song structure dominates in the end.

The Fragile was something I didn't really enjoy when it first came out. But I play it once every few years and it tends to grow on me a bit each time. Part of it I think is that his voice has gotten more annoying over the years, so it's nice hearing instrumental work. Which brings me to Ghosts. I really haven't listened to it enough, in a way it's a bit overwhelming (and I didn't want my last.fm charts getting flooded with short NIN tracks  ), but there is some great stuff on there. Some feels unfinished, some feels just fine as is. I think the ones I feel are unfinished are the ones I really enjoy, because I wish they were longer or part of something bigger.

The Slip was fine too, nothing spectacular, but enjoyable. I'll check out whatever he puts out next, and I'm curious what kind of non-NIN material he'll put out.

i love the fragile, even though starfuckers stands out like a sore thumb. The music is fantastic, but the words in contrast to the rest of the album are a bit . Great energy track though.

With Teeth I thought was great, minus the actual song awithateetha.

Year Zero - good but woulda been better full on electronic (imo). The good solider, in this twilight, the zeros and ones song are all fantastic compositions with the old school trent emotional but not as black hole in your heart/the world is ending as phm, or tds.

The Slip - meh. IT was just a quickly put together album of jams in the studio when robin fink came back into the group and wasn't really up to the usual well thought out, layed out, and meticulously programmed album trent is known for. Which is fine b/cthat wasn't really the point, but for it to be the last album they toured on is a bit sad.

I've seen NIN various times, and all of them great, except the last one. I saw them on the lights in the sky tour which was the one for the slip before the nin/ja and wave goodbye tour, and it was sooooo over produced it was almost boring. THe sound was *too* good (watch vid clips on youtube) that it made the expirence very sterile. PLus they played so many songs that aren't really good live songs and there were lots of awkward puases/silences, then the light show and vid screens took over and no one quite knew how to respond.

I agree with something someone else on watmm said in another nin thread, or maybe this one, that the lights/video setup on the Fragility tour were the best/peak. They were brilliant but non intrusive when nin was in full rock out mode.

I started to look at it, seems decent. There's smaller versions of it.

Also, for those that don't know during 2 of their *final* shows, NIN performed The Downward Spiral all the way through, and it was quite awesome. The fans that recorded it released it on youtube and as a HD download. There's lots of crowd noise and you can hear people shouting lyrics etc,but it is well worth the watch. Plus some dsi evolver kb action and little phatty. (i thought about starting watmm thread about this when it was released, but decided against it).

that's very interesting. when i saw them last year it was just after they'd announced that their last shows were going to be more raw and less based on lighting/screens/etc. i was initially a bit pissed off at that but the show was fucking amazing anyway. the sound was brutal and all they had for lighting were three thin strips of LED screens that changed colour and/or cycled through some patterns.

i think the reason the Fragile represents a big shift in NIN for me is that it was when i first started to notice obvious chord progression and melody reuses. There are songs on the fragile that sound like unintentional sequels to Reptile (The Wretched), Closer, Hurt (The Great Below), Piggy, etc. It wouldn't have been as strange to me if they weren't repeating so many of the same melodies from TDS. Ever since the Fragile i can hear these repeating themes on everything else he's done. Sometimes i don't mind it like when he obviously includes the piano riff from the end of Closer in one of his new songs, but a lot of the time it literally sounds like hes not doing it on purpose. it's kind of like he hasn't been able to 'move on' from the sound he created with TDS but every time he tries to recreate it ends up sounding kind of sterile. 'We're in this together now' while being a catchy song sounds deriviative of one of NIN's protege's Filter, the opening sound and lyrical stylings to the chorus sound almost identical to 'Hey man nice shot'.

'La Mer' & 'Into The Void' (even thought his sounds like Closers cousin) are my favorites from the Fragile, i wish NIN ventured more into that type of melodic territory.

i should point out though that like Druqks, i find about 50% of the Fragile to be really fine music. I think it would have been a much stronger release with half the tracks.

The tour they did right after that, nin/ja and the wave goodbye or farewell tours were awesome from all the clips I've seen. Very raw nin, which is what I have always liked. Sad I had to miss the show in NC. Also worth noting that I had crap seats when I saw them on lights in the sky. I was really close to the stage, but on the side stadium style seats (in a coliseum). So I was at a werid angle, so the sound was bad, the bass was nonexistant, and it was hard to really get the full if any effect from all the lights, or see the giant screen properly. I had to go outside to smoke (welli smoked inside one I got some drinks in me), upon returing a couple times i stood dead center in the middle of the walkway of the main seats, above the floor area, and it was great. I wanted to move over to there but there were staff at every entrance checking your tickets to every section and they wouldn't let you in if your ticket didn't match. I miss GA shows.

thanx for the nudies, very nice ass. bastard.

don't worry...isn't he gay? She's his beard.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.
