Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Looking forward to this one- I like Los Angeles a lot, but it sounds like he's really taking it to the next level with this one. There is more info in the new Pitchfork interview. Here's an excerpt:

Pitchfork: When you say you've been working with new people, who are some of the people you worked with on this one?

FL: I worked with an amazing bass player named Thundercat. He played bass in Suicidal Tendencies, and he plays bass for Erykah Badu and SA-RA and many other people. I'm working with Miguel-Atwood Ferguson, who's an incredible string arranger and composer. So we got full string arrangements on parts of the record, and all sorts of folks. We worked with Laura Darlington again, and some more vocalists who I don't want to name yet.

Pitchfork: So you're working with more live instrumentation on this?

FL: Yeah. I'd say a lot of the ideas get expanded upon now and taken further, and you can embellish ideas. There's bass solos and stuff. It's becoming a little bit more unpredictable, I think. You don't know where it's going to end up. It goes 4/4 for a minute, and then transforms into something else.

Ooh, says in the interview he is remixing Massive Attack. That should be interesting.

Yeah, should be a good year for FlyLo. Curious to hear who the other vocalists on the album will be- I fear that there will be another Gonja Sufi track to skip over.

it's just not like he's done anything in the past that was particularly remarkable whereas ae constantly push boundaries and explore new territory.

in my opinion it's hard to compare them, ae is just in a total different universe.

i listen to alittle fly'lo and hednod a bit ...but ae is what i grew up on and booths and browns have become a piece of who i am.

Ehhh, I can't agree with that . Flying Lotus is most definitely one of the causes ( if not the cause ) of the new abstract sound of hip-hop today ( mainly underground ) it's slowly creeping to mainstream though .

But yeah , I guess I'm more lenient towards Cosmogamma because I wasn't so crazy about Autechre's Quaristice ( but then again...Autechre's track record for albums is pretty epic , sooo...I'm not that iffy about Oversteps )

They'll both most likely will be epic.

Win - Win

sounds like it could be more varied than los angeles, which should be good.

Yeah, I just hope there aren't too many guest vocalists.

flylo and doom should team up

Doom or Wu-Tang flippin' sum fly'lo

Triple H, Profidence , Tryflyn, Roots Manuva and Divine Styler could all work.

Blackalicious vs fly'lo.

He mentioned in the interview that there aren't any rappers on this one, but FlyLo and Doom would be awesome! His Lil' Weezy remixes are great for anyone who hasn't heard them.

Yeah he mentioned in that pitchfork interview that he feels having guest vocals on lots of tracks just ruins the flow of an album which is pretty much how I generally feel. I can't really think of any that have really pulled it off well, although that last Leila album was pretty good. But less vocals = good times for Fly lo
