holy fuck as if things weren't complicated enough now springy. are you saying we have to distinguish between digital, normal and "notmal" IMAX?

Hehehe...

haha probably not. i've been slowly collecting every pair of 3d glasses from every movie i've seen recently with the hopes of eventually doing my own 3d projection at a show.

red/green anaglyph glasses are like dozen for a dollar on 'bay

Although the Avatar screening uses polarized/"RealD" lenses, not the anaglyph ones.

Or do some screenings of Avatar go old school and fuck with your color perception?

no none of them do, i've been investigating custom polarized light projections/visuals for quite a long time but i have a 3d graphics friend who did some tests for me by rendering down 2 seperate videos for each eye then we projected them each using time aligned video feeds to 2 separate projectors each projecting through a different valued polarized film. Some of the 3d glasses use different ratings of polarization so not necessarily all of them are compatible with eachother.

back from the cinema:

- the xpand glasses are really weird. they definitely ARE polarizing (tried with two pairs, rotating one against the other makes it black out), but they are also definitely active. some guy had to change his, because there was a black border around one glass and they said the batteries were dead. also, there was this weird moment just before the movie started, when i felt like the glasses went completely black on their own (like some calibration or something). i really couldn't think of a way to check if they're shutter glasses, but the first time i had a mild headache from the first minute on, and this time my eyes were wet all the time. but it wasn't bad, i was able to forget i'm wearing glasses.

- i sat 3 rows further from the screen than the last time (row 8 instead of 5) and it was definitely less immersive. which is weird, because i always hated rows closer than like 10, but with this 3d thing it's really amazing if you're up close, it really feels like "being there".

- i lolled at "unobtanium" both times i saw the movie. come on, what the fuck were they thinking?

- i lolled at "ENLARGE! NOW ENHANCE!!"

- two of the navi chicks got proper boobs.

- sigurney weaver's avatar has a completely human face.

- don't go see this twice, you'll ruin your first experience.

My friend Margo is in town for the holidays, and one of her friends asked her if she wanted to 'get Avatar-ded.' This, of course, is when you get really baked and then go watch the movie.

Has anybody else heard this expression?
