LOL 34 fucking years.

Shout outs to the saracens, musulmen and celestials.

rio is a fucking WRONG decision for the captions role, he hasnt played for 6 months when he comes back he gets suspended for 3 games. he is also shit too, utterly finished, done. last few games for england he gave away most of the goals by stupid decisions fuck rio and the disco bus he rode in on.

terry is a great player, but being england captain you have to lead by example, and unfortunately he didnt lead by example by banging bridges bird.

id say give the armband to roony hes playing well, and even he if isnt very motivational on the picth (maybe he is?) when he scores goals it speaks for him self, and i think he'll be scoring goals upfront with a partnership with hesky or agbonlahor

though i reckon cappello should do the cliche move and give the armband to gerrard or lampard.

Rooney doesn't need the armband at all though, he's an important player as it is and should just focus on his game. Plus he doesn't seem like a natural leader on the England pitch even if he is probably the best performing player at the moment. Just let him play his game unhindered.

Agreed, don't understand why Rooney should be made captain, let him just get on with it.

I think Gerrard should have been given it over Rio personally. It's ridiculous how this country can't produce leaders on the pitch who aren't tainted by some disgrace or another - Rio's drug ban, Gerrard's assault thing, etc. But I don't think either of them are as bad as Terry, he's particularly fucking dumb.

PS

Give the captaincy to Gerrard. He's a great presence on the field.

rooney needs to focus on scoring goals. When he's captained either Engerland or Man U he hasn't contributed like he can. I tell you what though, Rooney and Agbonlahor up front will give defenders fucking nightmares.

(jimbob, ordinarily I wouldn't care, but Tevez's actions in the cup were so goddamn childish.)

Gerrard can't be captain as he isn't well liked amongst the biggest players. Lampard and Terry dislike him, as does Rooney. Glen Johnson is the only fellow Liverpool player in the squad.

I think Rio's a good choice, for now, as Terry will do exactly what he was doing before anyway. Rooney can't be a captain, he doesn't have the temperament, and I agree, that he should be left to play his own game.

The next question is who should be in goal? Apparently Joe Hart wants it. James will be there, but isn't trustworthy. Foster, no. Green, possibly. Robinson, even possibly.

not sure about that Gary , i read Gerrard's autobiography which said him and Rooney get on pretty well. Scouse solidarity i guess.

Joe Hart has been the best English keeper so far this season, Rob Green i wouldn't say has the confidence.

Probably Robinson

Can we just nationalise van der Sar already?

Failing that Robinson and Foster.

Joe Hart is definately the man for the future but he has virtually no experience and you can't really through a guy into a world cup without being part of the team in the build up. I'd just stick with Green now.

I'm a United fan and I wouldn't bother taking Foster. Green, Hart & Robinson are regulars.

After James' performances lately I wouldn't take him either.

Surely if we were going to attempt to steal someone we could do better than van der Sar. *cough Given*

I do fear that our lack of a world-class keeper could ruin our chances this summer, they're all fucking shit and Hart is too inexperienced... I have no idea who I'd choose. Maybe still Hart, I trust him more than Robinson, Green or James.

james is a fucking dolt. there was a reason that long ago robbo was chosen. Green is also a little shaky, but I'd go with a Green/Hart combo. Robinson is a little over the hill. Too bad fridel is retired internationally. and american.

lol because Gary Neville isn't childish, right?

Oh look, a city fan.

Gary neville is a cunt. He's a slow fucking liability in our back 4 (mind you I think while Giggs' brain is still top quality, his speed again lets us down) who shouldn't (and usually doesn't) get much pitch team in important games. Having said that, giving the finger (odd that he would adopt that and not the two-finger salute common in the UK) to someone who acted like Tevez is nothing.

Tevez' whining about Man U not keeping him combined with that hand-flapping gesture in the cup is what's fucking childish. He didn't put balls in the back of the net for us, so why should we have kept him? He should be happy he's at city, he got a pay raise to help fund his ego-fueled fantasies as told to him by Maradona...

as for Goalkeepers

Longest consecutive run of clean sheets in Premier League history? van der Sar.

Most clean sheets? James (surprisingly)

Anyways for England, I would stand by Foster, he's been unlucky in his premiership career at Man U so far this season, but he at least inspires some confidence (Kuszczak flaps all over the place, he gives me bad heart palpitations when he comes off his line for crosses or corners).

For England, it is worrying, Green doesn't inspire much confidence either. Probably say Hart, James (as long as he doesn't wear that godawful pink jersey) and Foster in no particular order of confidence...

ps. Given is a top quality keeper though, don't get me wrong.

I'm not sure if there's anyone that's stirred up more grief between fans in his career than Neville.

City, Liverpool, Arsenal....the guy embarrasses himself every year and is LOATHED up and down the country

Anyway, both legs were highly emotional (didn't attend the second leg) so to be fair Carlos earned the right to shut Neville up with the only way he knows how.

If you were offered 10,000 a week more to leave a job you weren't enjoying, would you turn it down? I doubt it

Of course hes loathed up and down the country, hes the captain of the most envious football team in the last 20 years who he's only ever played for and is a lifelong fan. When he's done stupid things he's only done it because he's red through and through. The only thing I'd slate him for is ignoring Schmeicals handshake because that guy was the best keeper the PL has seen and a magnificent servent to United, even if he did turn to the dark side.

Tevez never wanted to stay at United, he simply used the media to get a better deal at another club. United offered him a contract before the summer and he turned it down because its all about the money. I don't regret letting him go as he is too similar to Rooney upfront and they cancelled each other out, and Rooneys twice the player Tevez is.

And Chen cmon Foster is the ultimate flapper! I think Tomas is better than Ben is although he does need to work on commanding his box, especially with long balls but his shot stopping is pretty immense. Its hard for any keeper when you dont play week in week out.

Why don't we have an ongoing Football thread anyway?

Edited by Grizz

Nah, i'm pretty sure Tevez moved because he wasn't content with being second choice to Rooney and Berbatov (Rooney is absolutely unplayable atm). At Eastlands he can play near enough the full 90 minutes, at first i didn't rate him tbh until he scored against Arsenal in the cup.

BUMP THE FOOTY THREAD

  • 3 weeks later...

Wayne Bridge has withdrawn from the England squad. With Ashley Cole most likely to be injured we're left with Lescott (which might not be terrible having 3 more defensively minded players), Baines (has potential, but no caps) or a bunch of people filling in out of position (Barry, Milner, etc...)

Couple this problem with Glen Johnson's uninspiring form as a right-back and I think our chances of winning are suddenly lessened.

I can understand Bridge's decision. Would anyone of us want to spend the summer in close proximity to the man who cheated with your wife?
