squarepusher Oversteps - Initial Reactions (for real this time)

the only way we're going to get 'oversteps with beats' as some seem to be holding out for is in the live show set, unless AE really does us a 180 and does their first ambient tour ever. i dont feel any of the songs on Oversteps are unfinished ideas so i can't see them doing a similar Versions thing, a new EP of all new material though? absolutely, they are long due for one of these

(which is not a bad thing as Sasha's artist album was actually quite good). pt2ph8 feels like a melancholy continuation of known1, 2 parts of the same soundscape perhaps. Its like the younger, emo brother.

Very very good point. That album is awesome.

btw, i absolutely applaud the new direction. isnt one of the best things about ae that they never repeat themselves but everything they do is unmistakably ae?

for the haters:

a) you have the upcoming tour to look forward to. maybe there will be a crazy combination of these melodies with beats

2) you have the possiblitiy of an ep later this year with some crazy percussion filled pieces

d) and if you hate this that much, knowing ae never really repeat themselves, you have the next album and a shit ton of fakes to look forward to. 2012 is your year.

is this just speculation or has there been any confirmation in the press or in any interviews about an EP to come after Oversteps?

the only thing they said was 'expect more from us this year' implying that after oversteps there was more AE due out

Yeahhh, I can't even imagine what. And that's one of my favourite things about AE. Nobody knew that Oversteps would be anything like this, you can never predict where they're going next.

So I accidently ordered the 16bit wav and not the 24bit. Am I really missing something?

depends entirely on your hardware. if you haven't dumped some serious cash into it, then it will be quite negligible. of course, that one demon site probably has the 24bit, those devil worshippers!

yes. qplay is playing now and the beats actually are fun to listen to as there's really nice sounds hidden in the distortion… was kinda muddy earlier.

now listening the first time to the waves on really good headphones

I just want to reaffirm my initial reactions of a couple weeks ago. This is absolutely fantastic, gorgeous, and totally well thought out, as opposed to the general second-string type vibe on some of the tracks from the recent past albums.

yeah this album is magical, i know i've already called it my favorite, so i might be sounding a little redundant but god damn, this is really a soon to be classic

It just feels huge. That's what she said. No, the album feels like a great big world with all kinds of new creatures living in it. One of them resembles mr miyagi.
