This thread title somehow managed to get that "MAN MACHINE AUTECHRE" bit from the Untiltetour stuck in my head, again.

dunno, if you're on Windows, have you tried to update/reinstall your JRE?

never heard of highC but i'm trying it out right now. This is pretty neat!

i've built an experimental sequencer myself last summer… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1NY1yVul2I

it's only a prototype and needs an external sound source.

there's more videos of different little things i tried to code on that youtube account...

Guest spraaaa

that's a crazy looking demo, did you ever finish that surripere vid?

I'm on a mac - tryed to troubleshoot this java/high c stuff with the high c people a while ago, they pretty much got me far enough to know it wasn't their fault. then I gave up and forgot.

thanks… nah i kinda lost interest in it… but started programming soon after… the potential is there to do really neat, contextual motion in real time and that's where i'm heading :shuriken:

actually right now i'm working on something that does depth-of-field and has a similar look to the surripere preview...

hm weird with the Java… i guess you already tried the obvious, repair permissions?

its power lies mainly in the ease of use and versatility. It's incredibly uncomplicated to get a sketch up and running compared to other languages, and actually rendering pixels to the screen is the bottleneck most of the time. Doesn't mean it's slow, just that it can't keep up with the actual processing for most things.

And yes you can use OpenGL. Here too, the implementation is not exactly optimized for turbo performance, but ease of use, and some more advanced GL features probably don't work at all. So you maybe won't be able to build Bioshock 3 in Processing, but it's very inviting to experiment on a smaller scale.

so yeah like any language it's not perfect for everything, but generally if you want to do realtime graphics and want to see decent results quick, look no further.

"MAN MACHINE AUTECHRE"

"AUTECHRE MONO MACHINE"

just for IDM's sake.

Is that it? Makes sense, but seems a bit commercial/on-the-nose for the boys.
