so i never really knew exactly what this program was about so i youtubed and many of my questions about this software was solved...it seems very useful for beats, to have them in the rex format and be able to manipulate them in reason.

i have a book somewhere and it had a short 2 page article on aphex twin. At the time he listed recycle as his favorite software...which makes me question, was he also using reason ? how does that work? (recycle without reason. I assume just for making a perfect loop.......... but what about making drill with recycle ?

so i'd like to hear from recycle users about their experience and maybe how to make some sick beats, tips and tricks . thanks you .

recycle is a very simple but very necessary app to cut samples efficiently IMHO. I've never got too in depth with it, just have used it to cut up my samples where I need ems and bounce to rex. Only thing I can say as a suggestion is the sensitivity bar doesn't always get the right hits (im using an ooold version of recycle, not sure if there's newer much better updates) so you have to place your slices. its no big deal though, it seems like recycle always drops my slice starts exactly where I want them even if im a lil sloppy wit my mousy click

Recycle is a massively useful time saving tool. I don't use REX files, I like to use it to make big drum kit style sampler patches out of random sounds. Go into the garage with a recorder and hit stuff with sticks, play some spastic nonsense guitar, play some tribal rhythms in the kitchen on pots and pans etc etc.. Drop the long audio files into recycle, adjust sensitivity. Export as lots of little chopped sounds and put em in your favourite sampler. Program beats! Layering up the same old 909/808 etc sounds with filtered door slams, bitcrushed lightswitches - this is what making electronic music is all about.

Thanks for posting this thread, you totally reminded me what a great little program it is.

I think the quote pre-dated Reason if it's the same one I'm thinking of.

However Luke Vibert said it was RDJ who first showed him Reason, so he must've used it a bit at some point.

afx used recycle to easily place loop slices in his samplers. when recycle came out it wasnt a reason deal really, but a conveinient way to chop loops without taking 10000 years.

That aside, recycle is great, both to use with reason, and I just found out I can use it with ableton live too so woo hoo!

I agree with what BFC said too. SOOOO much more rewarding.

I think you can import REX files into ableton. This is a tad redundant with all the new loopslicing stuff in ableton 7/8 though.

I haven't checked the loop slicing in ableton 8 yet, guess I'll have to look into that.

anybody used Propellerheads Record? It's Reason + the ability to record and handle audio files directly in the sequencer. the mixer looks fucking sick:

it's not an audio editor. it's for taking an audio file and saving it with slice points saved internally (you can also save the individual slices as separate audio files and save the groove of the loop as a midi file)

I also think so.
