Kinda sad I'm not going to any of the lives this time, some would have been within reach... but I haven't even heard Oversteps yet.

i second that. it has lesser melodies than i thought. that 4/4 track in the middle was fantastic.

yeah pretty much.

like i said, some moments were fantastic. But the whole thing lacked coherence or dramaturgy, progression or flow... lots of tension, but no release. the tension basically ate itself to a point when it became outright annoying. the really good parts were few and far between.. which were relatively straight patterns with less meandering/bass drum poking than 90 percent of it. for example ca. half through the set, out of nowhere a complicated yet straight and energetic drum line and a mean sawtooth bassline. wow! o fuck yeah! (only to be turned into meandering after a few minutes). there were a couple of great build-ups, huge potential, only to be discarded...

so it felt like they pressed play on a decent track, then ruined it by manipulating the patterns semi-randomly, and after a while repeated that with the next track.

it also didn't help at all that Autechre played right after Haswell. My ears were still ringing from the Haswell set, i was expecting Rob Hall and/or OST to play next, a minute later AE just so started their set.

i know this almost sounds bitter, but let me assure you i'm having a great time in Berlin. We came to Berghain with a good set of mind, AE simply didn't deliver.
