yeah glitter freeze is a bit ..

i actually like white flag (despite originally laughing at it).

had a friend on facebook say the snoop dog track was lazy. i really REALLY like Welcome to the world of plastic beach. lyrics are a bit nothing but the actual song is awesome. when that arpegiated bass synth comes in. good stuff.

yeah, i really like this stuff, except i think glitter freeze and Some Kind of Nature are a bit dodgy. i don't really dig lou reeds singing, plus the verse to chorus transition.. . i find it sooo weak :F

broken. oh yeah! rhinestone eyes YEAH! stylo!! empire ants + to binge = both juicy.

OH! and i REALLY LIKE PLASTIC BEACH (feat. Mick Jones and Paul Simonon).

yeah I kinda like the fact that the snoop dog track sounds a bit lazy. In terms of White Flag, I dont mind the second rap (the one with Kano) at all, the first one bugs me a bit.

My fav are probably Rhinestone Eyes, Empire Ants, To Binge, Plastic Beach and Melancholy Hill. I really want to hear the track that was playing in the Russell indent trailer. I hope its one of the two bonus tracks on the special edition.

I have a problem with the production though. It seems to be lacking layers in some songs. It feels too simple. I wish he used Dangermouse again.

I am being a bit picky because I am a huge Damon Albarn.

im really happy he did it himself !

first album sound was largely due to dan the automator. second album was danger mouse. this album is just damon albarn. i first listened to it on ipod on train and it sounded really really good. maybe the simplicity is due to it being pop music :) maybe it's due to inexperienced production. either way, i have no beef and am happy it's been done this way :!

So yes, lack of a REAL producer working on this really damages the quality of this release. Almost every guest rapper falls flat in my opinion. The raps don't seem to fit in really well and just are sub-par in comparison to many of the raps in the past releases. The snoop dog rap is probably one of the best ones, but that's like 4 or 5 lines, and is basically a filler track. (the fact the first two tracks on this album are basically boring filler shows how weak this album is.) Listening to this album through just made me feel sad for how much more I loved Demon Days and how much time in the summer of High School I spent listening to it. I mean I really want to know why Damon thought he could produce this album on his own? I mean I'm pretty sure Dan the Automater isn't that busy. (Danger Mouse is hella busy though) He could of even done lots of guest producers and get some out of work IDM producers like Freescha(who has already produced for Brittany Spears) and made some higher quality work. The best part about this release is knowing that Damon will maybe make a 4th release now.

I'm enjoying it, it's just super-bubblegum poppy, like something they'd play at a Japanese mall. It's more to listen to than say, the Massive Attack album (which is alright).

But I agree, it's a bit too cohesive for a "Gorillaz" album, I would of loved to have seen another producer or string of producers make the beats and arrangements. This should of been a different solo project. It's like, the Gorillaz albums came out in 2000 and 2005 showcase the best of the time musically and are about as diverse as you can get without sounding like a compilation. There are so many good producers that could of been called up...just having vocals as random as Lou Reed, Mark E. Smith, and Snoop Dogg isn't that big of a deal when all the backing tracks sound the same.
