One more take on their name..

They say they had a track with an "au" sound and then randomly bashed the rest out on a keyboard. Some say its a combination of the words audio and architecture. I like to think of autechre as the "Awe Takers". The more we listen the more amazed and filled with awe we are. Awe that rob and sean take from us. Lame but i though it should be thrown out there with the rest of em.

Nice one.

In Ancient Greek, the word for ears is ώτα (pronounced ota, found in the word OTOlaryngology). In addition, τέκτων (pronounced tekton) means craftsman or 'master of an art' and the root of the word is also found in TECHnology, archiTECHture etc.

Autechre.. crafting for ears?

I just always associated it with "automated," but the only thing I have reinforcing it is that it's electronic.

I can't say I care a lot about their name as their stuff is awesome. It's just nice that I don't have to introduce my favorite music as "chick fuckers 31423" even though explaining how to say "Autechre" as well as spell it is a pain.

Yeah, exactly: lame. we have the boc-subforum for threads like this.

i always just assumed they mashed together a few words.. sort of like how gescom looks like two words mashed together.
