Root5
I think beardyman may have the world's biggest ego. goDel
What's your point? All good performers have a huge ego in one way or another. O wait, his ego is the biggest. Have you measured all ego's in the world by any chance? Sounds like you came in second. /deflates own ego again Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54887-the-incredible-beardyman-performance/page/4/#findComment-1831768 Share on other sites
SR4
im curious as to why he has a big ego. Im not arguing, i genuinely want to know what led you to that conclusion. I know very little about him, but he is certainly entertaining from what I have seen. Guest Blanket Fort Collapse
I certainly think he comes off way too pretentious for his own good. I really like parts of his performances, sometimes when goes for the top shelf it's amazing but... most of the time I think his comedy falls really short, it's borderline annoying and that he makes a big deal of things I don't find that impressive, artistic or entertaining. The only thing I've personally found annoying about him are his drunken facebook updates about how much he hates Coldplay or how Aphex's music is excellent, but all in a condescending tone you'd expect from some teenager who thinks he's an acclaimed critic but really just talking shit. Still, he's a talented motherfucker. And he can be quite cheeky live. I saw him last year at the Austin City Limits festival and he put on a great set on a smaller stage, confusing a lot of old folks who were sitting in lawn chairs between dull folk and singer-songwriter sets. I chuckled everytime he'd conclude his narration with a over-the-top echo effect. After doing his d'n'b section (it was apparent most of the crowd had no idea what drum n' bass was) he did some improv dubstep. A lot of people went apeshit simply because they were of the "omgz i liek dubstep i can't wait 2 c skrillex" crowd. In other words all the people who suddenly "loved" dubstep last year and went to see Skrillex and Pretty Lights at the festival but also likely skipped the James Blake set. So he there was Beardyman, having fun and likely having a go at the audience but while channelling their energy. It was fun to watch and dance to, and all the while I'd gaze at his live setup in awe. Clearly, there's the obvious effects suite pedals but I suspect some grooveboxes as well so he can bring up those "templates" on the fly and then build upon them. His "master synth" looks like one of those new Roland Juno series pieces but it could just as easily be some shit "electric piano" as they called them in the '90s. When he fucking "wobbled" his "throat bass" with the footswitch on the effects box, I nearly shat. Then again, I nearly shat hundreds of times at different parts. If this guy isn't a worldwide name in a few years (as in a Letterman/Leno appearance or something)*, I will be stunned. re-reading the thread, i remembered i saw him on conan a coupla months back. nicely predicted. Root5
I was misunderstood, and that's probably because I was unclear. I don't think there's anything wrong with him having an ego. I was just trying to describe him, not evaluate him. He's a fantastic performer and his ego is clearly part of it. It fits in with his cheeky adhd persona. As for why I think his ego is huge, it has to do with his facial expressions and body language. When he goes for applause he has a "bow before me" kind of look to him, and when he's doing his show he has a "I'm totally blowing all their minds" look about him. Again, I have no problem with this whatsoever. I was describing, not evaluating. SR4
It makes me wonder why this idea was never toyed around with before by other huge and versatile beatboxers like Rahzel or Kenny Muhammad. Boxus
I first came across beardyman in this video a few years ago - I loved it instantly. It reflects his big ego and sharp wit with a great concept backing it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7GGkKpBR-g I'm a huge fan of this beatboxer-turned-one-man-comic-band genre that's unfolding. It seems to be headed by beardyman and reggie watts [who is also brilliant and has a better singing voice than beardyman but less technical skill] Edited June 11, 2012 by Boxus Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Boxus's signature Hide all signatures art Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/54887-the-incredible-beardyman-performance/page/4/#findComment-1832188 Share on other sites
