Autechre tracks played at Atoms for Peace show

I went to the Atoms for Peace show last night at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. (Thom Yorke of Radiohead's band) I know many of you may love or hate Radiohead, but I thought it was pretty neat that in between Flying Lotus and Atoms for Peace, they played 2-3 Autechre tracks. One older one and a couple newer ones. The show itself was also great, but that's off topic. :)

it was really cool b/c thome yorkre said he bought the whole warp back catalog (which, at that time meant he purchased like 10 cds, anyway).

so i was there, kid a. and it was great because of the placement...i mean, before Flying lotus>>>>>>??>?> BWHAA! another warp artist? ahow did it ahappen??

so, me and autcrhrre were huggin and i suggested we eat noodles together gain forever DADADA

no wonder the peace for christ movement recognizes how the pope designates a nice comfy space for child rape: B?C OF AUTHRE!!!

Radiohead play Ae tracks before they start playing too - they played Melve before they came on stage at Reading 2009. My excitement was met with criticism that it was music that resembled someone falling down some stairs. :trashbear:

cool of Thom or whoever to promote Ae like that. Though it must be said, I am waiting for the day I hear a live band cover an Ae song.

Like that Notein cover of Altibzz.

i'd have replied with something along the lines of "your face sounds like someone falling down some stairs"

Should have said, a live band that isn't Alarm Will Sound. But thanks for the link anyway.

serendipity2 , havent seen you around these parts in many years. How are things ?

Things are okay. A bit insane but okay. There's a slim chance I might be moving out your way, that is, if you are still in the Bay Area...

yeah, they did this at the oakland show, it was only AE tracks between FlyLO and Atoms for peace,, one of the best musical nights in my life@@@

the crowd went nuts after the second and final encore, house lights went back up but the crowd kept at it, for about five - ten minutes,, hoping that they would come out again,, and finally they came out and did a cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart!!!

ahhh fucjjjjjjjjjjjjj!

the tracklist for the AE tracks was all ambient, dark sounds

Altbizz, etc.

do you live in Oakland?

i havent been to the fox theatre yet since it reopened, was the sound good for FLying Lotus? i heard from a couple people that the room acoustics are much better suited for rock/live band music

This is true. Though the sound wasn't terrible for Flying Lotus. (it was good, not great; AfP sounded much better, likely because of the aforementioned room acoustics). The venue was overall very nice though.

They played Burial before Flying Lotus came out (forget which tracks) and they played Altibz > see on see > known(1) > r ess > Drane. It was somewhat funny, during the long fade in to r ess, to hear the audience start getting impatient for the band to come on as to them there was no house music being played hence the band was on the way out, only to return to waiting patiently when they could hear the song and all the way through the 10min + Drane.

I'm not sure how much of this is "news" though; like the other poster said Radiohead has played Autechre a lot as house music before and after their shows. When I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in like 2008 I think it was they were playing a lot off Quaristice.

And yeah love or hate Thom and Co. Flea doing his best Peter Hook and Thom doing his best Ian Curtis at the end was pretty special I thought.

Flea was perfect for these jams! The ovation at the end,, how long d o you figure it was?? i know for sure it was at least five minutes! -=-=

- don't live in oakland,, but i do like to come out ,, i saw animal collective tear it up at the fox last year, the lighting at this place is really something.

i think as usual, they don't really give the full force of the PA for the opening acts, as was the case with flyLo,, i was really hoping otherwise, considering the situation. overall one of the best performances i;ve been to in 20 years.

wish i could get into anything remotely radiohead, i am having fun vicariously reading your show reviews

still waiting for more my type of music to peruse over to the fox theatre

Kid A and Amnesiac really are fantastic albums, but you can't think about ae at all when you listen to them because it's a completely different thing. But those records have a beautiful dark vibe to them, quite misty and evocative.
