A law against the burqa is in the process of being voted - in France.

1. Those supporting the ban are not totally wrong. I do think most of the women that wear the burqa (around 300 here in France, what a need for a law !) are forced by their family/brother/husband to do so. A couple of women went on TV to say they were willingly wearing the burqa, but I think these are just a minority : those who are forced to wear the burqua are not likely to go on TV...

2. A cop gave a ticket to a woman wearing a "light" veil. They said she was "driving in uneasy conditions". I can only see racism here. But let's consider the cops weren't genuine muslim haters. Why arrest the woman if so? They already knew it would create a buzz that would eventually stir up the muslim hate. What a band of douchebags.

3. The main argument for the law is that the burqa is against the Values of the Republic. Wtf. I thought the Declaration_of_the_Rights_of_Man_and_of_the_Citizen was something minimal and universal that builds the stricto minimum for a democracy(at least ours).

Liberty consists of doing anything which does not harm others: thus, the exercise of the natural rights of each man has only those borders which assure other members of the society the enjoyment of these same rights. These borders can be determined only by the law.

Well, you see, I don't think women wearing the burqa are harming my freedom. I thought you could override social norms till you're not going against som1 else liberty. Well i might be wrong. Now i am figuring out those that holds the reins of the government are just a bunch hypocrite moralist. Actually I already knew that.

*buys plane ticket to San Francisco*

yeah I heard you can attend university lectures totally naked there. Oh, you'd like to hold a gun at least ? No problem that's ok.

I definitively want to be there. (i don't smell my farts though)

*takes off*

(off topic) here's one of the muhammad cartoonists being attacked during a lecture yesterday in sweden.

the amount of blatant all out racism this has spawned in forums and comment sections and blogs etc is staggering. sure, this goes against pretty much everything that freedom of speech stands for, but he was showing naked men having sex while wearing "muhammad masks" in a room full of muslims, what did he expect to be the outcome? attacking him on religious grounds is wrong, but someone should slap some sense into him just for being fucking stupid.

In a way , Charles Manson is right.

in his total disregard for any philosophical conceptions or ideas forwarded in a metaphysics of race? or his total inability to gauge scale and faith in some retarded acid-head polarity?

I disagree. He wasn't showing porn, he was showing art. Also, yeah, this guy is a well-known provocator and i'm pretty sure his agressors could feel in advance what kind of stuff his lecture will be about.

Anyway, that's not an excuse to run and hit the guy in the face(although he sounds like a dick). Now they must feel like the situation is profoundly unfair :"alawouakbar alawouakbar alawouakbar", says a man in the second video, grasping the ultimate semblance of justice he can find, like if these words were the last mast of the ship.

if he was showing porn or art doesn't really matter in this case though, does it? it's not like it would've made a difference, the reaction would've been the same no matter what, and he must've known this. he should be able to mock whatever religion he wants without risking getting punched in the face for it, im just saying in this case, that's what to be expected, since these allahu akbar hollering nuts doesn't acknowledge the concept of free speech.

what amazes me though is how people seem to be unable to tell the difference between religion and certain ethnic groups.
