Project 1906

hello you lot

when i first joined the forum in mid 2004ish, someone suggested that we could do a noise project together as a whole-of-watmm collaberation, with the rules as follows:

everyone makes one track of length 19mins06secs.

it is a noise track - try not to use any rhythms or beats (if you do, keep them to 96bpm), just drones and noise scapes. if tones are used, try keeping them in the key of d minor.

then, everyone's tracks are placed on top of each other, and the result is a glorious track of noise.

i think it'd be cool to reattempt this idea - i remember chaosmachine did a great track, but my memory is a bit hazy, so it might have been someone else. my track from the original session is somewhat appalling, so i'll be rerecording a new track.

what if this was telephone style - each track is a noise remix of the previous one? I think the original idea might be interesting but it also might just be a vague mess.

What if it was not noise but maybe something good?

that sounds cool - i think if everyone keeps their track as minimal as possible, it'll sound great. also, wax cylinder recordings are probably more idm than the large hadron collider.

yeah, that's a possibility - i mean, this is only an experiment, it could sound like crap - but the problem with telephone style projects is that the final track almost always sounds in the style of whoever did the final remix...

i like this idea -- i particularly applaud picking a key, and the saddest of all keys at that. the best layers will have a good degree of silience so that any lack of silence will be highlighted.

yeah, good call on the silences. what's generally acknowledged as the saddest key? gloomy sunday's in A minor...

this sounds like a good opportunity to to dust off the ole Nord Modular and get some algorithmic shit going on, d minor was it?

i think the original version of this project was in 120bpm, but i irrationally hate that tempo.
