i'd never made a drone track until i first attempted this - i just set the laptop to record, fired up buzz and went nuts for 20 mins.

Hah... any good tips/alternate programs for a guy who's been using FL for six months? In other words, how well suited is FL for this type of project?

i've never used fruity loops ever, but i reckon it'll probably be doable.

i'm impatient at sequencing - i usually do everything live and edit it afterwards.

I have no hardware and my soundcard/ drivers are retarded and I can't do anything live till I have some cash... hah, well here goes.

seriously mate, i think it's doable in almost anything. just set yr bpm to 96, set some synths to have a long attack and sustain, and program away. it'll just be really cool to hear everyone's work together!

I just got done making noise with my $10k modular!!! I mostly just amplified interference from my cell phone and from crossed cable runs. After I recorded 19 minutes of it, I pitch shifted it into D minor!

This is gonna be so good!

And rest assured it WON'T be mistaken for an AFX Analord Tuss Aphex Rephlex IDM ripoff.

Because it isn't actually music...

an interesting idea, i personally draw a huge distinction between "noise" and "drone" music, the idea of layered drone tracks intrigues me, but layering tons of noise on top of noise sounds like it could turn awful real quick.

One of the things i like most about music like this is the atmosphere and tiny details that make a track really stand out from another, and i feel like when you slap together 5 or 10 different artists' attempts at creating something unique, you would lose that individuality and the thing would just homogenize into a cacophony, which i guess is the point of the project, but also the reason why i don't care for noise music.

For a future project it might be interesting to do a round-robin sort of a deal where a wav file is passed around to each participant in turn. so there could be a non-blind layering of elements, hopefully resulting in less homogeny.

In any case, i will be watching this project with intrigue.

sure, i see your point - i think it may become too cacophonous with any more than 4 or 5 people's tracks layered, so i might experiment with fading some in and out, or making two tracks, etc.

i think drone tracks are more encouraged for this project, but mine's mostly drones with some noise in parts to add a bit of texture.

it'll be fun anyway.
