soundwave
is there any software that comes close to the G2's modular sequencing? Guest mafted
reaktor is looking like the most powerful out there. as for the g2, they are no where to be found and i'm tempted to get the first just bc i can.. this be a humdinger Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/56211-nord/page/3/#findComment-1523382 Share on other sites
kcinsu
fucking hell, these things are expensive second hand! $3,335 on ebay for the g2x! 1000 for the g1 keyboard. glad i got my keyboard and engine while they were still in production. the engine isnt expanded though : ( and yes, reaktor is very powerful, but it is not real time modular. you cant connect something super easy and intuitively like the nords. reaktor is for building synths. nords are for modularly synthesizing. kcinsu
if reaktor was anywhere close to being as quick to use as the nords, I would have sold mine off a long time ago, for some good cash, and have a lot less to worry about (midi/audio interfaces, lack of easy portability etc.) the reason i keep them, is because there is nothing out there like them. now, if clavia came out with the nord modular plugin, that was 100% native to the computer, I'd go fucking mental with joy. this is not likely. a fantasy of mine, is to one day program a software instrument that is basically the nord modular without hardware. thats probably several decades away from feasibility though. im not sure which is more unlikely... for clavia to stop being a terrible company, or for me to progress to a level in my programming skills that I could pull this off. both are pretty fantastical. Brandi_B
There's a G1 on ebay right now, starting at 700. If you can stay close to that price that isn't THAT bad. G2's are around too. Synthesizer second hand markets are spread ery far out past ebay, a lot of people that sell high end or pricey gear prefer direct sales, more $$, safer, and a good way to make contacts for future trades etc. electro-music.com - gearstluz.com (have to sign up to iew classifieds), harmony-central.com classifieds, analogue heaven has digital synths listed fs sometimes , etc etc. They are around. They are a LOT more scarce than they were last year though, and more expensive. When I was searching (took a good months of waiting) for my g2x, I saw a regular g2 go for $1080, and an engine go for $750 (or something close to that). Nord G1's used prices had stayed around the $500-600 mark for a good lil while, they just started going up last year, now stuff's outta control! Reaktor against Nord is really apples and oranges. It's like a Buchla against a Korg Ms-50. Sure they both function the same way, editing may be similar, but the modules, way they flow, and of course the sound are miles apart. Reaktor is an awesome synth, but I don't ibe with it at all. If you're going to look into soft modulars, I recommend Vaz modular and/or uhe zebra any day rather than reaktor. However that's just my personal taste, you may get reaktor and loe it, it certainly has miles and miles of sound design at your disposal, plus it can use samples, which the nords can't (directly). I still say hold out for a G2 or just wait until you see a G1 under $750. kcinsu
Oh, btw... Since this is a nord creations thread... The track in my signature... All of the drums and glitchy stuff were made with a g2. processed a bit, and cut up with the virus atomizer. I think all the synths are virus, except maybe a background pad that was g2 as well. Guest mafted
picked up a Rack 2x. 2nd time with a nord but the 2x seems to sound a lot better and have more features than the regular rack, so i'm happy. now, to master it. i plan on syncing it with a k2000 and the 'vast' synthesis it uses, which isn't quite FM but algorithmic based.. should be fun. soundwave
VAST; looks good on paper but nothing more than an over complex way of making fuzzy waveshaping fx the G2 has a waveshaper btw Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/56211-nord/page/3/#findComment-1531230 Share on other sites
Guest mafted
have you ever really gone in depth with it? a little dated, but it's a lot more than it seems. Download's first album 'Furnace' is a good example of its power. it's similar to the Wave where you can modulate samples in to the synth. someone made a patch that recreates On the Run (P. Floyd) by merely pressing a key.. and it's not sampled. it also has one of the best samplers out there, but i will shut up now.
