I have no idea why.

But the synths just sounded so much more melodic, and complex. It's sounded a whole lot less like just a cacophony of sound to me. It's got the super high energy that I wish was conveyed in more Autechre songs.

New sound system? that's what got me to like autechre.

gantz graf is amazing, I wish they did more tracks like that. there still hasn't been anyone that can make anything even remotely similar to it as far as I'm concerned.

agreed. it's got a groove that is just not found in anything else i've heard. most music that tries to sound like gantz graf is just noise

I've yet to reach this peak, this mighty zenith of Autechre wisdom.

Must try again, and again, and again, and again.....

Is life to short? Or is it that I am a fool?

Oh Great Autechre Buddah!

Just remember, their music is the freestyle graffiti of sound.

I'm going to guess this is a sarcastic post.

hooray! now you get some cake :emotawesomepm9:

I don't think I'll ever fully enjoy this or Draft. Good moments in all of these songs (I love the video regardless) but they just get bogged down and excessively messy for me. It's not that I can't follow the beat, I just hate the timbre. Fermium and Ipacial would later fall into this category. I love almost Autechre's catalog but the period in between Confield and Untilted was just not for me. Funny because many here regard it as their favorite. Although ISS:SA is one of my favorite EPs and falls in this period. A lot of people say Confield is their most difficult but it sounds so much more coherent to me than Draft or Gantz.

Cap.IV is basically perfect.

Agreed. The segue into Cap.IV from Dial. is one of my favourite Autechre moments.

Cap.IV is literally perfect.

ftfy :)

& also Gantz and Dial. Three perfect tracks. Underrated EP.

Was just struck by how much Dial. sounds like it was made from the same components as Uviol. Sort of. Maybe I’m wrong, but it feels like maybe another take from the same starting pieces.

Favorite time to listen to Cap.IV: early spring, late afternoon, less than an hour before sunset, during heavy rainfall in which half the sky is filled with clouds, but the sun is piercingly bright, so that the colors fade from grey/purple/blue to yellow/orange/gold.

It just occurred to me that the 'graf' in gantz graf probably refers to graffiti...i may be way behind on that one. So maybe the name is some combination of the ganzfeld effect and graffiti you might see as a result. And the tune is like an evocation of that.

Or something.

It sounded better in my head than when I wrote it down tbh.

Anyway it's incredible. And even more incredible that they made it around the time of EP7 but didn't know what to do with it at the time.

Dial I never really got til I heard it in a DJ Stingray mix, it made so much more sense in that context.

And CapIV is just straight gorgeous. When those chords bust in...ahhhh

Unread replies

I have too. Originally my least favorite track on the EP but now it’s in competition with Cap.IV as my favorite track. Went from 3.5 to 4.5 stars for me. Shit slaps

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.
