absolutely, you have full access to automation and sequencing in Reason while using it rewired through a VST. You could go back in forth every bar having the DAW sequence something Reason is doing one bar and have the Reason sequence the next bar, vise versa all while doing automation's in Reason and separate ones on your DAW. You don't lose access to anything in Reason by rewiring it. It just enables you to sync it up to the mothership, lets you use vst's on separate reason instruments and lets you control it completely basically.

As I said above there is a lot of creative and productive benefits to using a DAW like Reaper to control Reason and other programs at the same time. There is absolutely no draw back in doing so as far as I can see.

Edit:I am fucking tired I miss typed a lot of things in all my posts but I don't think any of my errors make it impossible to understand, sorry, leave as is and going to gym, hope this helps and you find as much benefit in revising your software usage as I am.

so i guess there's no need to get the RECORD program huh? just do EVERYTHING ELSE with reaper

Yeah I was going to try out Record but I see no fucking point in even downloading it for free being that it can't even do VSTs..... dood dawg bro... Propellerheads what were you thinking? You aint even gonna get a few hours of my bandwidth downloading that.

Reaper rewiring Reason and hundreds of other VST effects, instruments, video capability etc. etc. etc. > Pooplerheads Record

... btw I understand that Propellerheads were trying to make Record more optimized and compatible for transferring projects etc. by limiting its potential but it makes it a complete deal breaker for me. Why would I want to limit all of my recordings to just the units built into Record??

Am I right in thinking , the only way to get an audio track in reason is to install Record 1.5 ?

Only seem to be able to sample bit in the kong drum etc..

You mean to implement real time audio? You can put rendered .WAVs in Redrums or NN-XTs of course.

Yes, you've always been able to do that in reason. but i've seen reason 5 screenshots & videos with the audio on it's own track... like in cubase etc...

Is that only available in Record 1.5 ?

You can put audio in any of Reason's samplers, but they only start playing back samples when the sequencer gets to the note on. If you start the sequencer in the middle of a long note, it'll just ignore it. This is fine for actual samples, when you're using the samplers in the way they're intended, but if you're loading up 30 second long verses and choruses, it gets pretty annoying very quickly. Then you're faced with two options: rewire Reason into a proper DAW, or get Record (any version of Record's fine for this). I can vouch for Record working very well with Reason, as you'd expect what with it being by the same company, and others here have vouched for hooking it up to a proper DAW. So either way you get Reason + vocals/guitars/whatever.
